6 epics to inspire you in 2023
We love goals and there's no better time than the start of a new year to find yours. Here's a list of 6 incredible challenges around the UK for a healthy dose of inspiration.
1 / Race to the King
2 / Dragon's Back Race
Considered by some to be the toughest mountain race in the world, the Dragon's back is not for the faint of heart. 380km and over 17,000m of ascent is a bucket list event for even the world's best ultra runners.
3 / Chase the Sun
Leaving on the longest day of the year, Chase the Sun is a non-competitive coast to coast ride. Over 200 miles of riding and 3000m of elevation make for a serious challenge. Your only goal? Make it across the country before sunset.
4 / Original Mountain Marathon North Wales
Described by competitors as a soul-destroying but unmissable experience. The Original Mountain Marathon (the OMM) is more than just a test of fitness. On the startline you're given a map and not much else. It's up to you to plan your route through the mountains and make your way through the checkpoints to camp before doing it all again the next day. It's even held in October to make sure that even the weather is against you.
5 / Ironman UK
An ironman is on the bucket list for most endurance athletes. Bolton is home to the only full-distance Ironman in the UK. Each discipline on its own is a tough challenge. Put them together and you're in for a seriously long day.
6 / The Bob Graham Round
No organiser, no race, no start time. Just 66 miles, 42 peaks and 28000ft of climbing around the lake district. Strictly speaking, The Bob Graham Round is not a race but it certainly fits into the 'epic' category and is a must for serious mountain runners.
