Organiser's Description

BigSky will start just after sunrise from the viewpoint at Hyde Common, one of the highest points in the New Forest National Park. As dawn becomes day and your race begins, you’ll set off under a dome of Southern England sky, with views that stretch from horizon to horizon. You’ll navigate wide open plains and winding forest trails and be in awe of the abundant wildlife roaming free. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere at this event, is truly exceptional. Numbers are very limited due to the nature of the course and we wouldn’t want it any other way!

We have new routes this year, which take you to beautiful little-known parts of the spectacular New Forest. There are 2 distances, 18 miles and marathon, each a fantastic challenge! The Ultra will return for next year!

BigSky is part of our Classic Element Trail Run Series, symbolizing the classic element Air! The series consists of four trail running events based on the 4 classic elements….Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Whether it’s running under never-ending sky (Air), battling over ancient rugged coastline (Water), Pushing yourself on under a relentless sun (Fire) or clawing over muddy hills and rainy valleys (Earth), BigFeat Events have developed a series of races, BigMud, BigSea, BigHeat and BigSky, that will Challenge you, Awaken you and Inspire you!

BigSky is fully marked and marshalled, with 2 aid stations for the 18 mile route and 3 for the marathon. Both routes showcase the best scenery in the New Forest before finishing with a thrilling run along Hampton Ridge back to Hyde Common, where all runners will receive a bespoke event medal and the chance to sit back and look out over the awe-inspiring New Forest National Park.

Course Details

On both routes, runners experience the best of the New Forest National Park. We visit little known parts of the forest to give a unique experience! Route is undulating, the views are spectacular!

The Marathon and Ultra continue on across Fritham Plain to Nomansland, Deadmans Hill and Godshill.

At the 2nd course split, the 62km Ultramarathon will depart Hope Cottage and cross the border into the vast farmlands of Wiltshire, before crossing the River Avon at the weir to the West of Trafalgar Park, following the river to Downton and then returning to the National Park at Godshill Enclosure.

Here the Ultra meets the marathon course and you’ll be treated to a final climb up Cockley Hill, before the thrilling run along Hampton Ridge to the finish back at Hyde Common, where all runners will receive a bespoke event medal and a chance to sit back and look out over the amazing New Forest.

Fabulous event. Early start to meet the sun rise but it was an incredible sunrise. Quick briefing and then we were underway on a magical course, 98% off road on well maintained trails, plenty of signage along the way, and the back up option of a downloadable route. two races run side by side for the first 10 miles then the 18 miler takes one route and the marathon another, but marshals in place to ensure you don't go the wrong way. Well maintained and stocked aid stations with lots of goodies to chose from. A superb medal at the end together with pizza and hot drinks. This is part of a series of races forming the Elements, I will be back to run the others. I would highly recommend this event, undulating but not technical so open to all abilities. Put this one in your calendar the views are spectacular.
