Course Details

Your journey around England's old capital begins in the heart of Winchester. Starting and finishing at Winchester Rugby Club, participants run along the Itchen Navigation where your first big challenge awaits as you ascend past St Catherine's Hill and head east across the beautiful undulating trails to Cheesefoot Head.

You then have a succession of 'Big Way' paths; the South Downs Way, Allan King Way, St Swithun's Way and the Itchen Way, leading you through quintessential English countryside as the trail meanders alongside the River Itchen and out on the Three Castles Path towards Kings Worthy.

From here, the marathon and ultra routes head out on the Watercress Way to the spectacular 17th Century Lainston House. No time for their famous afternoon tea here though, today you just pass through!

Skirting Farley Mount, the final leg of your challenge takes you back on the Clarendon Way towards St Cross and the Water Meadows.

Be inspired by the sight of Winchester Cathedral as you head towards the finish and the end of your monumental challenge!

Timings

This year we are going to start all distances together in self-seeded waves according to running pace. As we run through Winchester town centre to get out onto the trails, we need to separate the field. It is a chip-timed event so there is no advantage starting in an earlier wave. The paces are those which you think you will average in the event for the distance which you are entered! If the field is too big for a certain pace then we will split it in 2 so timings are approximate.

Briefing for ALL RUNNERS will be at 7:55am by the start.

8am – sub 8:30 minute milers
8:03am – 8:30 – 9:30 minute milers
8:06am – 9:30 – 10:30 minute milers
8:09am – 10:30 – 11:30 minute milers
8:12am – 11:30 – 12:30 minute milers
8:15am – 12:30+ minute milers

CUT OFF TIMES
50K – 8 hours
Marathon – 7 hours
19 mile – 5 hours
14 mile – 4 hours

My second year at this event, I came back because I loved the route and the event vibe. Great scenery, some challenging ascent, very friendly organisers and Marshals, allied to well stocked and good variety at the feed stops, all helps the tough sections become enjoyable. I would thoroughly reccomend this event, and The Big Feat event in the New Forest later in the year.

Really fun event, well briefed before race day and on the day, generous cut off times. A very friendly atmosphere, good aid stations, well marshalled road crossings, and good signage with the gpsx available beforehand. Bag drop was smooth, and pizza was sold at the end! Only a couple of small niggles - they could have done with a couple of portaloos at the start to supplement the toilets in the clubhouse, there were a couple of long straight stretches that had footpaths branching off where an extra sign or two for reassurance would have been nice, and in my opinion the second aid station was too late in the 19mile course. But overall an excellent day and I hope to run it again.
