Course Details

The Swim
Participants start with a 1-mile swim in the open waters of Lake Ullswater, known for its crystal clear water.

The Bike
The 38-mile bike leg leaves Glenridding on the A592 along the shores of Ullswater, before turning left to climb past Matterdale End. Left turns at Troutbeck and Threlkeld bring the course onto a flat section next to Thirlmere. A quick descent means the racers will fly past Grasmere. In Ambleside the course takes a left turn up “The Struggle.”The infamous "Struggle" climbs to the top of the Kirkstone Pass, which is a steep and demanding. From here there is a technical and fast descent to the Transition.

The Run
The final segment is a 9-mile fell run, which is the most challenging and inspiring part of the event. Helvellyn is England's third highest mountain. This terrain is rugged and off-road, adding to the extremity of the race.

What's Included

Challenging Terrain
The race is known for being extreme and challenging. This is not a normal Triathlon! The bike section includes the steep ascent of "The Struggle" to the top of the Kirkstone Pass. The run involves ascending and descending Helvellyn, England's third highest mountain, on rugged, off-road terrain.

Helvellyn Triathlon stands as a test of endurance, challenging athletes with its chilly swim, challenging cycle, and rugged run, all set in the demanding terrain of the Lake District.

How to Get There

Jenkins Field, Glenridding, Nr Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 0PB

Follow the directions for Ullswater Steamers, turn left after the Glenridding Hotel and the field is on your right. We will be based in the big white marquee. There is very limited parking here. If you park on the steamer car park or anywhere else in Glenridding you will likely have to pay.

Parking

Car parking is at the King George V Playing Fields (Sunday only). Opens 06.30 what3words///lists.pizza.harnessed///.

It will be signed, but follow the main road out of Glenridding towards Patterdale, the car park is just along the first lane on the right. There will be a charge of £5 per car all of which goes to the playing fields charity fund. There is definitely no car parking at the venue. Please do not park in the Pier car park or in the car park in Glenridding. We will fill these up very quickly for the entire day and upset everyone. It will also cost more. There is definitely no car parking at the Glenridding Hotel for our purposes, it is strictly reserved for residents. Please observe this.

It is a 10 minute walk from the car park to race registration and transition area.

Location

The start and finish, and transition are all on Jenkins Field, on the edge of Lake Ullswater. It is a stunning location for participants and supporters.
