Organiser's Description

The Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon is a unique point to point race along the canal towpaths between Wolverhampton City Centre and Brindley Place in Birmingham.

The event format, is based on people's predicted finishing times. It seeds runners into in a time trial format running in waves of similar abilities. Waves start from 08:30 - 12:00. The conditions underfoot vary from gravel tracks and un-kept trails to smooth pavement.

The race accommodates all types of runners. There are entries for "Elites" such as club runners or those serious about running and the "Socials" those that are also club runners but don't take it too seriously to those who like a personal challenge or those running for another reason such as charity or personal reasons.

The route is largely flat with some locks and bridges as the only inclines, the route includes the famous 'Coseley Tunnel' a 360 metre tunnel, a memorable feature of the scenic course. The route features floating drink stations (canal barges) every 3 miles offering runners water and electrolyte.

*Please note that occasionally there are additions to the event which are beyond our control and there could be a diversion in place. This is at the behest of the land owners (Canals and Rivers Trust). We aim to provide as much notice about this as possible but occasionally this may be at short notice.

The finish line is in the heart of Brindley Place, Birmingham, all finishers will receive a bespoke finishers medal and a well stocked goody bag. Brindley Place boasts plenty of pubs and bars where you can refuel after the event and spend some time cheering in finishers.

My first HM and what a great one to run! The route was fantastic, mostly flat but there was a fair amount of bridges to run over but they just changed things up a bit. The event was extremely well organised, perfectly spaced water stations and plenty of marshals where needed. The start was awesome - being able to go when you were ready rather than being in a huge crowd was fantastic! Signing up for next year too!

Very enjoyable race. The event was well organised with good communication to the runners from the organisers. The marshalls and crew were excellent and very friendly. Getting to the start by train couldn't be more convenient. The race is mostly flat but the bridges at the end were quite challenging on tired legs. There's a mixture of surfaces along the route including compacted earth, gritty tow paths, mud, tarmac and slippery cobbles. The scenery offers a real contrast between very pretty canals and urban hidiousness under the M5. Overall, this was a great race and one I plan to do again.

Wasn't sure what go expect with it being my first race, but it was so well organised from the start to finish. Bags were dropped in Wolverhampton and taken to Birmingham for collections. Route was well sign posted all along the route and lovely Marshalls to encourage you on. The goody bags were a lovely bonus also medals and t shirts. Would definitely do this race again. Thank you!!
