Organiser's Description

Brechfa Forest is one of Wales' spectacular hidden secrets. It's incredible there is something so vast just 90 minutes from Cardiff. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the size of the place but, fortunately for us, Natural Resources Wales have created some gorgeous routes with open panoramic views, quiet and serene pine forests and waterfall laden deciduous woods.

A 13 mile loop allows you to choose one or two laps.

For the marathon, the 2nd loop is in reverse - the half and full marathon people meet each other in opposie directions- and creates a wonderfully supportive community race. This is a perfect race as either your A race for a fast trail race or as a part of your training for another race.

The wonderful Pobl Y Forest (people of the forest) provide a warm home made soup at the end (including in your fee) - last year it was so popular, that entrants felt we should go into making soup!

Which distance will you choose; half marathon or marathon?

Thank you to all the organisers and Marshals for putting on such a great event. Lovely forest trail with gorgeous views. Really well sign posted for someone like myself doing their first trail event. Highly recommend.

Easy to get the organised bus up to the event. Place to stay dry and warm before the start and end even a cuppa. The run was challenging, offering forest paths and a river crossing (alternative route if not wanting). Really lovely atmosphere, soup at the end was tasty.
Thank you for taking time to let us know how it went - we were considering call it the soup race - the reviews on soup is amazing. All down to the local community and Pobl Y Fforest. All the food comes from the community shop too.

Absolutely brilliant, my first trail run over 10K, and a damn good work out for an old boy like myself. Great organisation, from the park and ride, through to the well marked course, and the lovely soup at the end. Right friendly bunch of folk too, lots of chats on the way round, and the river crossing at the end was fab, I was so hot by then was tempted to hav3 a full immersion, till I remembered my phone was in my trail running vest, and that would not go well. Be back next year, half tempted to try the marathon, but will see what shape I am in after Christmas ! 😅
Wow - that is quite a lumpy route for a first half - well done. We get lots of people who have their first half with us, and yes the routes are challenging. That said, everyone tells us just how rewarding they are. For me, road races are hard - the boredom of it all. Trail - the beauty and interest, just means its a wonderful day out, oh, and there is a race too :-) Thanks again for joining us
