Organiser's Description

A perfect race to start your trail running adventures, test your speed on challenging terrain or simply explore a new area! These are great routes and will be fully marked so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside around Caerphilly. You will pass through fields, woods and, yes, there will be a few hills!

These quiet trails are within a stone’s throw of Cardiff, the capital city, and and yet feel a world away. Whether you’re looking for a thrilling fast race to push you on multi-terrain (there is a great downhill single-track!) or a serene morning on the trails - this race has something for you.

If you've never thought about trail running you must give this a try. There’s no pressure to run the hills, instead you can catch your breath and soak up the scenery before letting gravity carry you through the downhills, reenergising you for the flatter sections. It’s your race!

Course Details

Both courses are hilly and undulating but with a good balance of uphill and downhill throughout (it's not a fell race!). You will enjoy running through fields, fast singletracks, a stone roman path and a mixture of gravel and muddy paths and tracks. The highest peak is Rudry mountain (which is technically only a hill!) and at the top you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Machen mountain, Caerphilly mountain. Rhymney Ridgeway and Caerphilly town.

Whether you are a first time trail runner or looking to test yourself on fast and technical downhills, these courses have been designed with all runners in mind.

kit list

Being a short race there is no minimum kit. That said, please be sensible. It is February.
We recommend
Waterproof top
Thermal base
Trail shoes
Hat and Gloves

Given this is an entry race, you may not know what to get. There is an overwhelming array of lovely very expensive kit out there, and if you are not sure if you want to go trail racing again, then that is a difficult challenge. All we can say is there is no such thing as bad weather, but there are bad clothes.

Get in touch with us if you are unsure - we really want to help you get out there and enjoy Wales all year around. If you need specialist help we can put you in touch with people who will provide expert advise.

timing

Registration opens - 9.00

Caerphilly Trail 10k - 10.00 start

Brilliant race, beautiful scenery and friendly people all around. Only small feedback is maybe more arrows as it was quite easy to go the wrong way. But I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely be signing up for another! Thank you

Loved every second. Really well organised, great tracker and lovely supportive marshals on the route. Well done on organising such a brilliant event. Hope to take part in the 10km next year.
Really glad you enjoyed it. Thank you ever so much for the feedback (sorry for the delay, only just noticed this feature in Find a Race ). Feedback is so important for us. We are runners ourselves, and want to put on races we would love to do ourselves
