Starting at 08:00

£42.00

Organiser's Description

The Pennine's are host to some of the most stunning and scenic trails in the country, and it's about time we dedicated a whole flipping trail marathon to them!
Starting in the picturesque setting of Simply Fields just outside of Hurstwood, the race begins through the woods with a climb over Gorple to Gorple Rocks, before descending back down to Widdop Reservoir where you will reach your first checkpoint (1) just before Walshaw Dean Reservoir.

Running up and over to Top Withins, you'll descend over the trails down past Bronte Waterfalls, heading down the farm track towards Howarth and your next Checkpoint (2). Taking a right at the road, you'll begin to head back over more farm track to the next checkpoint (3), climbing back up and over to see the forest of Hardcastle Crags as you reach the summit of the hill.

Descending down to the woods, you'll take a right along the track on Shackleton Hill with Hardcastle Crags to your right, before descending down and through on some super woodland trails, before climbing back out to your last checkpoint (4).

Making your way back over towards Widdop, you'll turn left up past Lower Gorple Reservoir, climbing back up to Gorple Rocks where you can enjoy a 3 mile descent, with views of Pendle on the horizon, back down to the finish.

There will be 4 generous cut off points:

1st checkpoint = 5.2 miles / 8.3km - 1 hour 45 minutes (water available)
2nd checkpoint = 11 miles / 17.7km - 3 hours 20 minutes (water and food available)
3rd checkpoint = 14.4 miles / 23.7km - 4 hours 30 minutes (water available)
4th checkpoint = 19.8 miles / 31.8km - 6 hours (water and food available)

This is quite possibly the most scenic marathon I have ran in the UK. Every mile with different backdrops to run through. The clear flags to follow route throughout marathons. With incredibly supportive and helpful volunteers all the way round the marathon. Challenging hills to be wary of, so got yourself on some hills/ marshland before booking this marathon! I'll be recommending this to marathoners to book onto and experience the great trans Penine trail. Great job guys on a really well thought out marathon from start to finish! Thanks Ollie
