Organiser's Description
Saturday 7th March 2026
Start Time: 9:00 AM
Venue: Lillyroo's Glamping, Sandwich Road, Deal, Kent, CT14 0AT
The Format
Backyard Ultra is brilliantly simple:
Run a 4.167-mile loop (a “yard”) every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains.
Finish the loop in under 60 minutes to stay in. Miss the bell, and you’re out.
Round Three takes place at Lillyroo's, a peaceful, family-friendly venue just outside Deal.
You’ll be running on a wide, flat out-and-back gravel trail, with just 8 metres of ascent per yard —
one of the flattest Backyard Ultras in Europe.
Whether you’re here to test your limits or just see what you’re capable of, this is a supportive and social setting to do it in.
Entry Options
Choose your format during booking:
• Standalone Event
• 7 Hour Challenge (capped at 7 yards)
Places are capped at 120 runners total.
Payment plans are available with no extra fees.
The 2025/26 Series
Sholden is Round Three of the Kent Backyard Ultra Series, which features four unique events across Kent:
• Round One – 14th November 2025 — Vigo Village
• Round Two – 10th January 2026 — Dover
• Round Three – 7th March 2026 — Lillyroo's Glamping, Sholden
• Round Four – Bedgebury National Pinetum, Goudhurst
Each event has its own character: muddy trails, private roads, forest tracks...
But across all rounds, one thing stays the same: the Backyard community.
This is a format where people rest together, run together, and support each other.
You might be in competition, but you’re never truly on your own.
The Course
This round features a single route used for both day and night loops.
It’s a flat out-and-back course on gravel track — a great place to find rhythm and keep the bell within reach.
Supporters are welcome, and the venue offers camping, glamping, and campervan options right by the start/finish area.
Perfect for making it a weekend, and for keeping those post-yard hugs and snacks close at hand.
7 Hour Challenge
Not quite ready for a full ultra? This is your route in.
The 7 Hour Challenge follows the exact same rules and route, but you’ll run a maximum of seven yards.
Start at 9:00 AM, run into the afternoon, and finish with a solid block of effort under your belt.
It’s a great way to get involved, push yourself, and feel part of the bigger picture.
Medals & Buckles
Your effort is always recognised:
• Complete at least 1 yard: Kent Backyard Ultra medal
• Complete 24 yards / 100 miles: Bronze Buckle
• Be the Assist (2nd place): Silver Buckle
• Be the Last One Standing: Gold Buckle
• Most yards across the series: Black Buckle
How the Series Works
You can enter one event, a couple, or all four.
Every yard you complete adds to your overall series total.
Run 6 at Dover, 9 at Sholden — you’ll be listed with 15 total yards on the leaderboard.
It’s not about winning. It’s about showing up and going again.

Community & Night Running
The Backyard format creates a unique sense of connection.
On this out-and-back route, you’ll regularly see other runners — on every yard.
You’ll pass each other, share encouragement, and never be far from a familiar face.
When darkness falls, at least one marshal will be patrolling the course on a bike, offering extra support and visibility.
Even during the quietest hours, you’ll feel safe, seen, and part of something shared.
