The Midsummer Mortimer Trail, the sister event to The Midwinter Mortimer Trail, consists of two distances of mixed trail/forest/road runs along the beautiful Mortimer Trail, which runs between the historic market towns of Kington, Herefordshire and Ludlow, Shropshire.

The Croft Half is a 14(ish) mile route from Aymestrey to Ludlow.

The Kington Ultra is a 30(ish) mile route from Kington to Ludlow.

Course Details

Starting opposite the Burton Hotel, Kington, the MMT(S) Ultra is a mere 30ish mile multi terrain run. The route takes you through the Marches of England, with extensive forests, limestone tops and gentle pastures in an area dominated in mediaeval times by the Mortimer family, one of the most powerful Norman earldoms.

The MMT(S) Croft Half follows the last half of the Ultra route, starting at the lovely Riverside Inn, Aymestrey.

How to Get There

The event takes place in the beautiful countryside of Shropshire and Herefordshire. The Ultra starts at the Burton Hotel, Kington, whereas the Croft Half starts at the Riverside Inn, Aymestrey. Both distances finish at Chapter66 cafe, Ludlow Castle.

By Road:

Ludlow is situated on the A49 trunk road which runs from Warrington, through Shrewsbury and Hereford to Ross-on-Wye. From Birmingham, head west on the A456 through Kidderminster. From the M5 leave at junction 3 and continue on the A456 through Kidderminster.

The Burton Hotel, Kington, HR5 3BQ is located on Mill Street on the Western area of Kington, which is situated just on the English side of the English/Welsh border, West of Leominstrer.

The Riverside Inn, Aymestrey, HR6 9ST, is situated South West of Ludlow and North West of Leominster on the A4110, between Kingsland and Wigmore.

Chapter66 is located within Ludlow Castle, Shropshire, SY8 1AY which in turn is situated in the Western part of the town centre.

There is no organised transport from Ludlow back to Aymestrey or Kington after the race

Parking

We recommend parking your car early in the morning in Ludlow and making your way back to Kington or Aymestrey for the start of your race. There is all day paid parking at Ludlow in either the Linney Car Park, Galdeford carpark or smithfield car park. Minibus transport which can be booked for £15 per person when you sign up for the race will also take athletes from the Smithfield car and coach park to Kington and then onto Aymestrey for registration and the start of your respective race. There is no parking at the Riverside Inn, Aymestrey. Further details on car parking and transport will be shown in the Athlete’s Guide that is posted to each athlete two weeks prior to race day.

Competitors for the Ultra must be 18 years old on the date of the event

MMT(S) Kington Ultra: although there is no official cut off, it is estimated that most athletes should arrive at the Riverside Inn checkpoint no later than 1400 (6 hours after starting) and be finished by 2000 (12 hours after starting).

MMT(S) Croft Half: The Riverside Inn, Aymestrey, Leominster, HR6 9ST
Registration: 0800
Race brief: 0850
Race start: 0900
Competitors for the Croft15 must be 17 years old on the date of the event
MMT(S) Croft Half: again, there is no cut off, but it is estimated that most athletes should arrive at the finish in Ludlow no later than 1400 (5 hours after starting).

For those athletes doing the MMT(S) Ultra distance there will be the opportunity to buy coffee and snacks at the Burton Hotel and use the toilet facilities as you register and get ready for the start.

For both the MMT(S) Croft 15 athletes starting at, and the MMT(S) Ultra athletes checking in at, the Riverside Inn checkpoint there will be plenty of water and snacks as well as toilet facilities.
