Organiser's Description

Welcome to Newport Fun Run!

A day of running around the beautiful area of Newport, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the views.

We are hosting three races, a 5k, 10k, and 1k, each on multi-terrain routes around the picturesque Essex Countryside.

These runs are for everybody, from those just starting out running, to experienced racers, to people who just want to walk it! We hope everybody who comes has a great time!

So come on the 13th of July for an amazing day of running, with proceeds going towards the Newport Church.

Route and elevation

Multi-terrain course across farmers fields. If the weather is dry, these trails are very easily runnable, with a mix of hard concrete, easy to run on gravel and hardened mud.

The 1k is a looped course around the recreation ground.
The 5k and the 10k are both looped courses reaching out towards Rickling Green. The 1k and 5k are completely off road, but the 10k has a small 200m road section which will be well marshalled.

What's Included

The races will all start at Newport Recreation Ground (by the cricket club), where there will be refreshment stalls, a bake sale and a bag drop.

The 1k will start at 9:30, where runners loop around the recreation ground. This will be followed by the 5k and 10k starting at 10:00am

The runners will be followed by tail walkers ensuring everybody's safety and encouraging a healthy atmospheres for those who wish to walk the race.

We will have first aid from St John's Ambulance covering the event, and marshals out on the course to look after runners. The races will be fully marked with course markers and will be easy to follow.

We will have a photographer out on the course capturing the runners, and we will be able to share those images with you after the event.

How to Get There

We encourage all runners to reduce their impact on the environment and to use public transport/ride share where possible. Or even run or cycle to the start!

The location is easily accessible by public transport, being just 600m from the Newport Train Station, connecting us easily to both Cambridge and London.

The 301 bus route also stops 500m from the race start, making the race accessible to those from Saffron Walden and surrounding areas.

If you are driving, there will be car parking provided on Newport Common (behind the village hall), which is only a 500m walk from the race start. Cars can enter from the high street entrance (///smooth.disengage.tuned) and park closest to the village hall. Once again, if possible please avoid driving or try and arrange ride sharing! If you are wishing to use our car park, please select this option on the checkout screen.

For all three of these locations (train station, bus stop and parking), please make your way to the high street, and from there walk up Frambury Lane, and a left at the end, where you will find the race start!

FAQs

  • Can I walk the event?

    Of course you can - we will have generous cut off times in order to accommodate everyone involved!

  • Do I need to be an experienced runner?

    Not at all! This event is about having fun and supporting a good cause. Walkers, joggers, and first-timers are all welcome

  • Will there be water stations?

    There will be 1 water station along the 10k route at roughly the 5k point, and water and fresh fruit will be provided to everybody as they cross the finish line

  • Where do the profits of the race go?

    All money raised by the event will go towards the Newport Church and Community, supporting the important work they do.

  • Do you take cash?

    Card only for race entry, cakes and refreshments

  • Can I sign up on the day?

    Yes you can, but numbers for this will be limited so please book in advance if you can. This will close roughly 15 mins before your race starts so please be prompt

  • Do I need to buy two tickets if I want to accompany my child on the 1k fun run?

    No, if you are supporting a child in the 1k, you don't have to purchase an additional race entry.
