PHOENIX - HERCULES Labour Seven

Sun 21st January 2024

A grayscale circular relief sculpture depicts a muscular man holding a large animal, possibly a lion. Surrounding this central figure are small, detailed images of various animals and mythological symbols, encircled by a Greek key pattern. A group of five people smiling and posing under a "PHOENIX Running" canopy. They are wearing athletic gear and two of them have medals around their necks. The background includes trees and race-related equipment. A group of nine people, wearing race medals and athletic attire, stand smiling and cheering in front of a tent labeled "PHOENIX Running." They are under a tree, celebrating an apparent race or running event, dressed in colorful outfits, some with tutus and bright accessories. A group of people in athletic clothing pose together outdoors, some holding medals. They are standing and seated in front of a river with lush green trees in the background. Everyone is smiling and appears to have completed a race or athletic event. A large group of runners, wearing numbered bibs and colorful athletic gear, are starting a race on a tree-lined path. Some runners are dressed as superheroes. Bare winter trees and suburban houses are visible in the background. Text reads "Phoenix Spring Marathon 2017. A group of runners in athletic gear socialize and rest outside a pub called "The Weir." The sunny day has people sitting at picnic tables, enjoying refreshments. The pub's structure features timber framing and a hedge runs along the side.

Organiser's Description

On Sunday 21st January 2024 our epic Hercules run series will return and we're inviting you to come and join us for the next event in the series - labour number seven - the Cretan Bull.

Our original HERCULES runs were a series of twelve running events or 'labours' for you to complete across a calendar year, but Covid interrupted things as we reached labour #6 back in 2020. Well, after a bit of a gap, we 're back in 2024 with labours 7 - 12 and there will also be some 'Hercules Returns' catch up runs for those who missed any of the first 1-6 events.

Each 'labour' is an awesome running event in its own right with its own awesome medal, so you can choose to complete one, two, three or perhaps all of them!

The seventh trial of Hercules is one of our timed events where you choose - from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra, you can complete as many, or as few, laps as you like of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, out and back, course along the beautiful river Thames. We welcome all abilities of runner - complete one lap and you're both a finisher and a winner in our eyes, or keep going and see how far you can get in the full 7 hour time limit and everyone gets the fabulous bespoke finishers' medal.

We also operate our uniquely flexible 'rock up and run' start times within a 1 hour start window, so no waiting around if you arrive early and no added pressure if you're running a bit late. If you have any special start time requirements then just get in touch because depending on the distance you are planning to run we can pretty much accommodate all start time requests.

Whilst Phoenix Running is very much about the bling and our medals are second to none, we're also acutely conscious that events can be expensive to enter and times are tough right now. We're now in our 9th year of fixed prices for our standard themed events, but to try and do our bit we're trailing a 'no medal' entry option at a flat £20. We cover our base costs, you get a run with all the usual Phoenix support, epic aid station, same day results published, athletes profiles, Phoenix World, digital BIBs, digital finishers certificates, etc, etc but without a medal we can keep the price low for this entry option.

Not sure? Well the beauty of this format is that you don't even need to decide in advance - simply come and run a lap and see how you feel on the day and keep on going if it feels right.

Places will be strictly limited so don't leave it too late to enter.

Minimum distance is 3.28 miles or as far as you can go in 7 hours. Off road trail, the terrain is riverside towpath. The overall course has no elevation gain / loss making this a flat and fast route.
