Quendon and Rickling Festival of Running

Sun 24th June 2018

A group of runners of various ages and genders start a race, passing under a large red arch on a grassy field. Spectators and other participants stand on the sidelines, cheering them on. It’s a sunny day with partly cloudy skies. A man with raised arms is running alongside children participating in a race. Several adults and children are watching and cheering from the sidelines. The children are wearing numbered bibs, and the scene takes place on a grassy field with trees in the background.

Organiser's Description

The fourth running of this Fun Run event, with the choice of 10k, 5k and 1k fun run for younger participants. With chip timing, finisher medals, bouncy castles, BBQs and the start/finish outside the local pub, we're looking forward to lots people signing up to join in the fun!

Starting on the Village Green, the run is largely off road and multi terrain making use of woodland paths, local footpaths and bridleways. The event will appeal to runners of all levels of fitness as well as the more experienced. For those wishing for a slightly less strenuous workout there is the 5k option. In addition, children of Primary school age may enter the 1k which will consist of several laps of the village green and will provide an ideal opportunity for parents to cheer on their children!

A great community event with all the proceeds going towards local projects such as the new school playground which will enhance our children's enjoyment of the great outdoors.

NB: The children's 1k fun run is £3 on the day, or a discounted rate of £1 if the child has a sponsorship form in favour of their own primary school. Online entries are now closed, but you can still enter on the day.

Well organised, smooth process to get bib numbers. Marshalls at certain points. Water stations much needed as hot day so that was great to see. Definitely do this Runfest again

Despite the race information saying the 10K would start before the 5K, which is normal race convention, the 5K was set off first. This led to the 10K runners getting blocked by people walking up the steep hill, kids stopping abruptly etc etc - it was really quite hazardous both for the 5K and the 10K participants. At one point the 10K runners had to deal with the faster 5K runners coming headlong at them on the wrong side of the path and also the slower 5K runners blocking the path as well. Please don’t let the 5K off first again! I much preferred the 2022 course, that rocky uneven path was not pleasant. Medals were fantastic, designed by the children.

Lovely run festival in a lovely village. Great day for a family with some nice attractions for children (and adults). It was a really hot morning, but fortunately, two water feed stations on the track. Unfortunately, the 5k route wasn't as good prepared as the 10k route, thus my daughter run a 10k instead of a 5k. But generally it was a great day out with the family.

Love this event, which is based in a lovely village and has a great community feel about it. However, the new 10K route is not good, with one path which has almost impassable at anything over walking pace due to being very stony / rocky and heavily rutted. Please go back to the old route!

Very well organised event. Local community comes together to make it happen from farmers to the village school to all the volunteers. Good atmosphere. Course is very scenic with Small but punishing rolling hills. Only reason not a 5 is because the route is largely out and back rather than a circuit which I’d prefer. Definitely worth supporting though.

A Lovely Community Event. A very well organised, community event. It was fun and family friendly, especially with the 1k fun run being held before the longer runs, so everyone one could watch the little ones as they raced round the village green. The route of the 10k was scenic and the marshals were super enthusiastic. Add in plenty of parking and fabulous weather and you have a pretty perfect event.

Lovely country run. Despite heat and humidity from parking, collecting number, Marshall’s and commentators encouragement, it was a well organised and friendly run.

Great 10k run. Prerace- collected my race number when I arrived there which was quick and easy. The race took longer than I thought to get started as there was a 1k fun run before the main 5/10k runs start of the run- Seemed a little confusing at the beginning as 10k runners were supposed to be at the front of the start line and 5ks following but it seemed not many people understood this but once it got started it went well and the marshals were very helpful and supportive. The track was a little tricky as a lot of it was on loose stone paths but was good for a challenge At the end, you could print out your race time and position which was very helpful

Well organised, challenging course. The race was well organised and flowed smoothly. It was a challenging course due to the undulating route (added to that it was also a hot day). I will be back next year!

Nice day out. I was made aware of this event by my sons school so thought I’d give it a go. Bit of a queue to get in to the car park but that was to be expected. Once in the lady at the entrance was very friendly and they seemed quite organised. I just followed the crowd to the school as didn’t really know where I was going and had to ask someone where I collected my race number from which I collected easily enough. I took myself over to the start and waited til we were instructed to go! It was suppose to be 10k first then 5k but everyone seemed to go at the same time! The course is very pleasant with a couple of hills but they could have done with a few more marshals as several people went the wrong way! I enjoyed it but was a bit miffed with the ‘medal’ as not sure you could actually call it that! Overall it’s a lovely event and I suspect I will take part again especially now I know what is what 😁

Well organised, friendly event. First time running this on Sunday. Very good organisation both beforehand and on the day. Lots of helpers around for parking and marshalling. Very hilly course so be warned! It is mainly in countryside so stunning views.

A friendly run. I've done this run a couple of times now - not the largest, (which is a plus for me), but one of the friendliest! Its probably not for you if you are looking to beat your PB, but is for you if looking for a lovely run across varied terrain.
