Organiser's Description

The Quendon & Rickling RunFest is back in its original spot in the calendar for 2024 after the massive sellout success of 2023 with a choice of 10k & 5k mixed terrain fun run, and the new routed 1k fun run for our younger participants.

We will once again be putting on a festival atmosphere and it will be bigger and better than before!

Starting within the school grounds, the run is largely off road and multi terrain making use of woodland paths, local footpaths and bridleways. The event will appeal to runners of all levels of fitness as well as the more experienced. Primary school age children may enter the 1k.

A great community event with 100% of the proceeds going towards Rickling Primary School for new IT equipment and facilities

Rickling RunFest 10th June 2023
Race Day Details

Thank you for supporting our event, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning for the 2023 Rickling RunFest.

We have a new 10k route, chip timing for ALL THREE events, and we are running the ‘Fest’ again this year.

The weather once again looks like it is going to be warm so please come prepared - sun cream and plenty of hydration if you need it!

RACE PACKS
We do not send anything out, please collect your race number on the day from the registration tent.
Registration opens at 8.15am and will close at 9.30 am before the 1k race starts. There will be tea / coffee and BBQ breakfast options available so arrive early!

RACE ROUTES
Please familiarise yourself with the routes! There are marshals on the course at the key points, but you will be responsible for knowing where you are going. It is well well sign-posted, however we (as always!) struggle to get marshals for every junction so consequently you will need to follow the signs.
It should be nice and dry at the moment, but there are a few hills to enjoy, as well as a couple of sections on the road so please be careful.
The 1k route is 2 laps of the green, starting under the race arch in the school grounds. Head out the gate, turn left, then follow it round, 2 laps and home.
The 5k route is as it has been before - out and back starting in the school grounds.
The 10k route is a new route that has less out-and-back, and a couple more hills… There is a small section on the road past Ricking Church, so please be aware of road users as we do not have priority.
Please also be aware that some of the footpaths we use are shared-use, so if you do come across a dog walker / dirt bike / horse rider / herd of wild animals, then you may have to give way - sorry!

WATER STATIONS
We will have water stations at the 5k turnaround and the 10k turnarounds. Please ring your own cup / bottle if you can, we are attempting to become a cup-less event and the less waste we can produce the better.

RACE DAY TIMING
Race pack collection will be between 8.15am and 9.30am by the school gates, under the teepee tent.

9.30am - 1k race warm up
9.40am - 1k race (mass start)
10.00am - 10k & 5k safety briefing / warm up
10.10am - 10k run starts
10.15am - 5k run starts
(these timings are subject to slight change and flexibility)

CAR PARKING
Car parking in a small village is always a bit of a problem, so if you are able to get a lift, or get here by some means other than by vehicle, then please do so!
Car parks will not be manned until 8.15am, and you may not be able to access them until that time.
Please drive into the village and follow signs for the car park. It will be either in Terrace and Garden or at the back of the farm.

FACILITIES
The Cricketers pub will be open from early and they have kindly said that we can use their toilets.
We will have a couple of portable toilets in the school grounds, and the use of the school toilets.
Please DO NOT use any of the surrounding trees and bushes as a latrine, anyone caught doing so will be excluded from the event.
There will be a bag drop tent at the registration, however this will not be manned 100% of the time so we can not accept any responsibility for belongings in this area.

FESTIVAL FUN
Bring the family and friends and make a day of it - We will have the following on offer in the school grounds after the 1k race has finished:
- All day BBQ (serving breakfast from about 8.45am)
- Tea / Coffee / Refreshments
- G&T and Pimms Bar
- Bouncy Castles
- Face painting, prize stalls, family fun and games
- Ice Cream Van

FINALLY
The run raises vital funds for the local school, and as such we are grateful to everyone who turns up to be involved in our event.
We are also very grateful to all of our sponsors and partners who make it all worth while and continue to support us:
Quendon Estate - Maces Farm - AVS - AERO people - Sworders - Knight Frank - Coach & Horses Newport - Parklands Quendon Hall - Terrace & Garden

If you have any questions please either check the website or get in touch with us.

FAQs

REFUNDS

If you are unable to compete you may be able to receive a 50% refund up to 4 weeks before race day however please consider gifting your entry cost to the school; this is a fundraising event, and costs have already been incurred.

Within 4 weeks we will not be able to offer a refund, however you may transfer your entry to someone else up to 7 days before the event.

TRANSFERS

You can transfer your entry to someone else up to 7 days before the event. You may also transfer your entry between the 10k and 5k.

DOGS

Running with dogs is not permitted. All dogs on and around the event area must be kept on a lead at all times due to the number of small children around.

RUNNING WITH BUGGIES

You are welcome to run with a suitable running buggy, however please be aware that this is a trail run and certain parts of the course will be bumpy. If you choose to run with a buggy then you will need to give priority to runners, and you will need to start the race at the back of the field as the early part of the course is quite narrow as it goes into the woods.

TOILETS

There will be facilities available at the school and at the pub.

MARSHALLS

The course will be well marshalled. We rely on volunteers to make this event possible, so if you would like to help out in any way then please email [email protected].

Any inappropriate or aggressive behaviour towards the event staff or event marshals will not be tolerated and will be strictly dealt with.

THE ROUTE

The course will be fully marked with km markers, and will be marshalled, however it is your responsibility to know the route. The event organisers will not accept responsibility for anyone failing to follow the correct route for whatever reason.

The course is accurately measured and marked out however due to discrepancies in GPS devices the organisers can not be held responsible for any small variances in the event distance. This is a fun run - you are not Kenenisa Bekele.

BAG DROP

We will be operating a secure bag drop facility on the race day. The organisers accept no responsibility for loss or damage to any property.

WATER STATIONS

We will have water stations on the course and at the finish, however it is advisable to bring your own water for the start and finish as on hot days we may have to limit the amount we are able to give away.

FIRST AID

We will have a designated medical assistance in the event area. If you require any medical assistance please see a marshal or a member of the race team.

FITNESS

It is your responsibility to determine if you are physically able to compete in the event.

EVENT POSTPONEMENT

In the unlikely event that the event can not go ahead on the date as planned due to reasons out of our control then the event will be re-scheduled and your entry will be transferred to that event. The event is a charity fundraising event for the school, and costs have already been incurred.

Registration & Start times

Race packs are collected on the day

We will be back to mass starts, the children's 1k will still be split in two to give the smaller runners more of a chance!

All timings will be confirmed closer to the event

Lovely run festival in a lovely village. Great day for a family with some nice attractions for children (and adults). It was a really hot morning, but fortunately, two water feed stations on the track. Unfortunately, the 5k route wasn't as good prepared as the 10k route, thus my daughter run a 10k instead of a 5k. But generally it was a great day out with the family.

Love this event, which is based in a lovely village and has a great community feel about it. However, the new 10K route is not good, with one path which has almost impassable at anything over walking pace due to being very stony / rocky and heavily rutted. Please go back to the old route!

Very well organised event. Local community comes together to make it happen from farmers to the village school to all the volunteers. Good atmosphere. Course is very scenic with Small but punishing rolling hills. Only reason not a 5 is because the route is largely out and back rather than a circuit which I’d prefer. Definitely worth supporting though.

A Lovely Community Event. A very well organised, community event. It was fun and family friendly, especially with the 1k fun run being held before the longer runs, so everyone one could watch the little ones as they raced round the village green. The route of the 10k was scenic and the marshals were super enthusiastic. Add in plenty of parking and fabulous weather and you have a pretty perfect event.

Lovely country run. Despite heat and humidity from parking, collecting number, Marshall’s and commentators encouragement, it was a well organised and friendly run.

Great 10k run. Prerace- collected my race number when I arrived there which was quick and easy. The race took longer than I thought to get started as there was a 1k fun run before the main 5/10k runs start of the run- Seemed a little confusing at the beginning as 10k runners were supposed to be at the front of the start line and 5ks following but it seemed not many people understood this but once it got started it went well and the marshals were very helpful and supportive. The track was a little tricky as a lot of it was on loose stone paths but was good for a challenge At the end, you could print out your race time and position which was very helpful

Well organised, challenging course. The race was well organised and flowed smoothly. It was a challenging course due to the undulating route (added to that it was also a hot day). I will be back next year!

Nice day out. I was made aware of this event by my sons school so thought I’d give it a go. Bit of a queue to get in to the car park but that was to be expected. Once in the lady at the entrance was very friendly and they seemed quite organised. I just followed the crowd to the school as didn’t really know where I was going and had to ask someone where I collected my race number from which I collected easily enough. I took myself over to the start and waited til we were instructed to go! It was suppose to be 10k first then 5k but everyone seemed to go at the same time! The course is very pleasant with a couple of hills but they could have done with a few more marshals as several people went the wrong way! I enjoyed it but was a bit miffed with the ‘medal’ as not sure you could actually call it that! Overall it’s a lovely event and I suspect I will take part again especially now I know what is what 😁

Well organised, friendly event. First time running this on Sunday. Very good organisation both beforehand and on the day. Lots of helpers around for parking and marshalling. Very hilly course so be warned! It is mainly in countryside so stunning views.

A friendly run. I've done this run a couple of times now - not the largest, (which is a plus for me), but one of the friendliest! Its probably not for you if you are looking to beat your PB, but is for you if looking for a lovely run across varied terrain.
