Organiser's Description

Starting and finishing in the village of Slaithwaite, pronounced 'Slawit' to the locals, this is perhaps the most undulating canal by a long chalk. This stretch of the Huddersfield narrow gauge canal has lots and lots of lock, which is wonderful going one direction and a little less wonderful the other direction. The course runs out to Tunnel End which is a 3.5 mile tunnel under the pennines where the canal boats used to go. You can still take a boat trip through or kayak on certain days.

We have 4 distances to choose from for this event, 5k, 10k, half and marathon, so something for everyone, with a generous 6.5 hour cut off time. There are plenty of water and feed stations located on the course, to make sure you're fully hydrated and fuelled up! You'll also meet some of our wonderful marshals along the course who'll give you lots of encouragement and help if required.

At the end you'll be given a warm welcome, a bespoke medal, drinks and lots of lovely edible goodies.

During the race and important things to note:

We try to be cup-less: Our feed stations are normally around every three miles and offer drinks and a range of food but please bring your own re-usable cup or bottle.

Headphones: Most of our courses are off road but we still prefer you not to wear earphones and due to oncourse incidents, we have taken the decision to ask you not to wear large over ear headphones. These block out any other sounds and don't allow runners to hear marshals, vehicles or other users of the route. If you do need to wear earphones, then please use bone conducting earphones or "one in one out" in ear pieces. Please note, there may will be unmarshalled road crossings.

Transfers/Deferrals: You can self-serve your transfer within 48 hours.

If you are struggling, injured or want to retire please notify the closest marshal.

We no longer mail out a race brief as most of the information is here on the website however we advise you to visit our FAQ section and join the “Grim Up North Chat” group on Facebook which will help with any other questions you have.
