Superfeet Sandman - Triathlon & Duathlon

With a beach start and sea swim, lining up on the glorious Newborough beach is an unforgettable feeling. The route is a simple out-and-back, but only the ocean will decide whether you're pitted against calm waters or white-tipped waves!

Don’t believe the rumours that this Island is flat! There are plenty of climbs and descents on the bike route to keep you on your toes. Starting from Transition in the heart of Newborough Forest, you climb up to the village of Newborough and take a right. Heading along sweeping bends and fast straights, you will then take a left towards Llangaffo, where the roads get noticeably narrower and deserve some respect. Flowing down through the marshlands towards Malltraeth, you will then turn left again back onto the main road in the direction of Newborough. Descend the forest road once more and into transition, ready to get your running shoes on.

The run takes place on the rugged trails of Newborough Forest. Running through the trees and down along the dunes is both wonderful and gruelling. The last 1.5km is almost entirely on sand, but it only makes the accomplishment all the more rewarding.

DO YOU PROVIDE NUTRITION?
Yes. Water, energy drinks and gels are available at drink stations. Please see online route maps for approximate feed station locations. The most up-to-date information will be detailed in your final instructions.

CAN I USE HEADPHONES?
The use of headphones is not allowed at our triathlon and duathlon events in line with British Triathlon rules. This includes bone conducting headphones. Participants seen using headphones will be disqualified.

WHAT CAN I TAKE IN TO TRANSITION?
Competitors should only bring equipment into transition that will be used for the competition. A small soft-sided bag, such as a rucksack, may be used and remain in transition, but it must not impede the progress of another competitor.

WHAT IS THE WATER TEMPERATURE GOING TO BE?
The water temperature will be officially measured on the day by the British Triathlon Referees 1 hour before race start. This information will be communicated to all athletes.

ARE WETSUITS COMPULSORY?
You should bring a wetsuit to every event. Under British Triathlon rules, wetsuits are either mandatory, optional or forbidden depending on the combination of swim distance and water temperature.

The use of wetsuits is forbidden or mandatory if the following combinations of distance and water temperature are met.

It is recommended that wetsuits be worn by all novices and Age-Groupers up to and including age 59 up to 22°C, and all novices and Age-Groupers age 60 and above up to 24.6°C;

Mandatory wetsuits must cover at least the torso.

You can wear any type of wetsuit, including shorties.

Where wetsuits are mandatory, socks are permitted. Gloves or boots are not permitted.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON THE TYPE OF BIKE I CAN USE?
E-bikes or any other power-assisted bikes are not allowed. All other bikes, including mountain bikes, are permitted. You don't have to have an expensive bike to take part!

DO YOU HIRE BIKES/WETSUITS?
Always Aim High Events does not hire out bikes or wetsuits.

Your Final Instructions will be sent out to you at least 10 days before the event. These instructions include all the detailed information you will need about the event and your specific race, including confirmed timings.

Race packs will be picked up from registration at the event village before the race start. Registration times are published on your race page.

Timing chip – must be secured to your ankle with the Velcro strap provided and returned to the organisers at the finish line. There is a £55 charge for lost or non-returned timing chips.
Race number bib – Worn on the back for the bike section and on the front for the run section. A triathlon race belt helps swap your bib quickly from back to front and are available for purchase at the Always Aim High Store. Teams and Savage Competitors are provided with 2 bibs.
Bike Flag – Peel the backing and secure to your bike seat post.

You'll be able to find out the wave you have been allocated to via the link in your Final Instructions, and on the main event webpage approximately 10 days before the event. Waves are determined based on your estimated overall race time and/or estimated swim time.
