[Middle distance duathlon] This was a very friendly festival with lots of great marshals happy to answer questions from a novice. The pre event information and the briefing on the day we're very comprehensive. The run was undulating but not hilly, and was scenic through the castle ground and surrounding area. Everything felt well organised and there were good food facilities at the end. The bike ride was TOUGH though. 815m of ascent in 45km and some steep descents on fast, poorly surfaced roads which felt pretty hairy for a first event! The junctions were well marshalled and two hazards red flagged but there were long stretches of road with no marshals and we had no means of contacting anyone in the event of injury or bike issues, in a very rural area. A fun event, and I'm glad I did it. I would race with this organiser again, but probably not on this route (or at least not without a lot more experience on the bike and some extra gears!)
