Organiser's Description

The second year of The River Run Half Marathon will bring a few exciting changes following its inaugural event in 2025. The start and finish will remain at Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham-by-Sea. This year, runners will begin with a loop of the Adur Rec and head down the same route alongside Shoreham Airport and turn right onto the Toll Bridge and follow the Downs Link, offering a smoother and wider path all the way to Upper Beeding. From there, the route heads into the town and across the newly built bridge, passing behind the historic Bramber Castle before returning to the river on the opposite side for the final stretch back to the start line. Runners will be split into different waves to avoid any congestion on the course.

The Course Route will be updated to include the new bridge installed in Upper Beeding/Bramber. The course GPX will be updated once the system confirms the bridge has been completed.

My first marathon and it was a tough course but very much enjoyed it! Weather held out until later in the day which was very lucky! Had rained quite a lot prior to the event which made the course slightly more technical but getting back to the finish line and being given the t shirt and medal made it worth it! Few goodies at the end for us and some coca cola and water which was nice! Looking forward to the next ones :)

Not a race I enjoyed, unfortunately. Good points: beautiful run, plenty of stations for refreshments. Bad points: organisation was poor: because there were no waves of start times it was easy to get caught behind people slower than you, with little opportunity to overtake in the early stages of the race. The course itself I felt was dangerous and not a suitable marathon course - we had to vault over gates, dodge cars, dodge large muddy puddles and run down unsafe trail tracks which were slippery and full of loose rocks. I saw people loose their footing multiple times. No mile marker after mile 24 (and generally poor signage) meant a lot of people ran the wrong way at the end. Not a race I will be doing again, unfortunately.

Took part in the River Run half marathon as my first ever one and absolutely loved it. Would definitely recommend to runners of all levels, as it is also seemed enough of a challenge for those more experienced too, by all accounts! Mostly a scenic trail run but a nice mix of high streets etc. in there too where there were loads of people showing support. Aid stations provided everything I could have wanted/needed and more, and the professional photographs were great too. Jake was excellent at communicating all of the important information and updating us on any weather changes. Overall, it was an incredible day and event that I will never forget!!

Tough route with amazing views.my first trail marathon experience will be memorable for sure. Very generous aid stations . Could have done with more Marshall’s at certain points on the course or larger marker flags. Would enter again for sure.

The organisation of this event was very well managed. The marathon route was clearly marked throughout and the positioning of aid stations was spot on. Equally the stock on offer was high. One tip would be to carry a refillable cup as some aid stations were short of cups at times. Overall, this was a fantastic race to take part in of you enjoy pushing yourself across trails and up elevation. Highly recommend!
