Event summary

Join us for the exhilarating South Hams Ultra, hosted by Wild Running Ltd, on Saturday, October 11, 2025. This breathtaking event takes you on a scenic journey through the stunning landscapes of South Hams in Devon, featuring two challenging race distances: a 105-mile full circumnavigation and a 56-mile route to Totnes. Both courses showcase the newly established South Hams Way, meandering through public rights of way, bridleways, and coastal paths, while also traversing parts of the enchanting Dartmoor National Park.

Starting from the picturesque Mount Folly Farm campsite in Bigbury, participants will experience the beauty of South Hams as they cross estuaries, navigate lush countryside, and enjoy the stunning coastal views along the South West Coast Path. The 105-mile race offers a generous cut-off time of 32 hours, while the 56-mile option has a 16-hour limit, finishing at the Town Mill in Totnes. With six well-equipped checkpoints along the way, including feed stations and professional first aid support, runners can focus on enjoying this unforgettable adventure. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to challenge yourself in one of the UK's most beautiful regions!

Organiser's Description

Cut offs

105 miles: 32 hours. Ascent: 4828 meters

56 miles: 16 hours:(Totnes finish). Ascent: 2325 meters

The South Hams Ultra is a very scenic 105 mile and 56 mile circumnavigation of South Hams in Devon, which follows the spanking new South Hams Way in South Devon for most of the way. If the full circle isn't for you, you can enter the 56 mile race toTotnes instead.

The South Hams Ultra follows existing public rights of way, bridleways and coastal paths, as well as traversing parts of Dartmoor National Park, beautiful South Hams countryside, and five estuaries. The SHW was established by the South Hams Ramblers and we are very excited to be able to showcase this beautiful circumnavigation route, as part of their launch in September.

The Route

You will circumnavigate South Hams in a clockwise direction, using the South Hams Way for the most part, but you will start at the Mount Folly Farm campsite in Bigbury, before skirting the Erme estuary and crossing the Erme in to the Flete Estate.

From here, the route picks up the Erme-Plym trail to Yealmpton and Ermington beyond, heading to Ivybridge and picking up the Two Moors Way (and Puffing Billy Track) to South Brent and following the Avon Dam, before crossing the Abbots Way to Buckfastleigh.

From Buckfastleigh, it's south to Totnes, crossing the railway line at Staverton. Fifty six milers finish here at the Town Mill, Coronation Rd, Totnes TQ9 5DF.

Otherwise it's on to Dittisham and Dartmouth via the Dart Valley Trail. From here, you'll join the SW Coast Path, all the way past Torcross and Start Point, until reaching the ferry in Salcombe, where you will embark at The Passageway in East Portlemouth.

Each runner's clock will stop here and the ferry crossing deducted from your finishing time, runners will continue past Hope Cove and Bantham, completing the loop by finishing in Aveton Gifford at the Village Hall.
