Two Rose Ultra
Sat 19th June 2027
Organiser's Description
If you choose the Two Roses you will set off with the Red Rose runners at 7am from race HQ in Old Town, a village above Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, and will be able to see Stoodley Pike on the opposite hillside, which you will reach shortly after the marathon mark. First you will dip into Hebden Bridge and start the climb through Heptonstall, briefly meeting the Calderdale Way before following the Pennine Way to your first checkpoint at Widdop Reservoir and then heading into Lancashire to the picturesque village of Worsthorne and the beautiful Townley park in Burnley, if you're fast enough you may even spot the parkrunners here. On leaving Townley park you will turn towards Cliviger and up to not one but two trig points on the moorland. There is another drop into Walsden before climbing to Gaddings Dam and reaching Stoodley Pike. The Red Rose route finishes with a drop into Hebden Bridge and a last climb back to race HQ in Old Town.
This is the half-way point for the 100km and HQ doubles as your mid-way checkpoint and there will be hot food here. You can have a drop bag here with kit for the second loop, whatever time you set off for the second half it is mandatory to carry your headtorch from here but you may also want to re-stock your pack or change your shoes. While there is no formal cut off here we will be encouraging you to leave here before 7pm to start the second half of your journey.
White Rose runners will set off at 8am from race HQ and will head for Walshaw Moor to run out towards Haworth where you will meet a more road-y section into Keighley, passing through Lund Park before rejoining the trail at Bingley golf club, taking you through the beautiful Cottingley Woods and past the waterfalls at Hallas Bridge. You will visit Doe Park reservoir and Ogden Water before coming to the final checkpoint at Leadbeater Dam - if you have chosen the 100km route this is also your final checkpoint and your only cut off, you must leave this checkpoint before 4am on Sunday morning. From Leadbeater you will pass through Jerusalem Farm and rejoin the moor for another small section of Calderdale Way, leaving the moor at Hebden Bridge golf club to meet Height Road to run into the finish.
The two routes compliment each other, with the Red Rose being the more technical, rugged and exposed side and the White Rose being made up of mainly woodland and roads, although the elevation distribution is fairly even.
Take advantage of the longest day of the year giving you maximum daylight to take in the views. The lack of cut offs on the 50km routes mean you can enjoy your first ultra or take on a tough new challenge without any time pressure and those of you on the 100km route don’t have too much time to run in the dark. As always our supportive crew, well stocked, vegan-friendly checkpoints, and pre-event recess, aim to give you the best chance to complete the beautiful, yet technical, challenge ahead. Should you enter the 100km and have to withdraw, as long as you have completed the first 50km loop you will still receive a medal and finish time.
