Organiser's Description

We’re delighted to welcome back the Bishop’s Castle Trail Marathon in 2026.

This stunning circular marathon takes you on an unforgettable journey through the Shropshire Hills, following sections of the Shropshire Way and winding through the Nipstone and Stiperstones National Nature Reserves.

From there, the route climbs onto the Long Mynd, where you’ll be rewarded with vast, uninterrupted views across the surrounding countryside, before returning via a network of local footpaths to the beautiful market town of Bishop’s Castle.

The event is fully navigational, with much of the route following waymarked national trails. There will be three well stocked aid stations along the course (all vegan-friendly), offering water, flapjack, coke, lemonade, fruit, salty potatoes, sausage rolls, and more, plus plenty of friendly faces to cheer you on.

As with all our events, there is no cut-off time and no pressure. If you’re prepared to keep moving forward, we’ll be there at the finish with a smile, a hug, and your well earned finisher’s medal.

Weather permitting, this is also a dog friendly event. We know many of you train alongside your four legged companions, all we ask is that dogs are kept under control and on a lead at all times.

Our mission is one of inclusivity: to encourage runners to take on their first long distance trail event, while also giving experienced runners a fantastic day out on a beautiful course, all wrapped up in a friendly, supportive, and happy atmosphere.

This was my first trail marathon and it didn’t disappoint. It was really well organised and the people were lovely. The aid stations were well stocked and the people manning them were amazing. I absolutely loved the slate coaster we got instead of a medal. The course is tough with quite a lot of elevation so not easy but no cut off and the views make it well worth it.
