Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Bishops Castle in Shropshire, this circular adventure takes participants along the stunning Shropshire hills. Runners will traverse sections of the Shropshire Way, explore the Nipstone and Stiperstones National Nature Reserves, and ascend The Long Mynd, where panoramic views await.
With a marathon distance on offer, this event is designed for all levels of runners, from beginners to seasoned athletes. There are no cut-off times, allowing everyone to enjoy the journey at their own pace. Expect well-marked trails, three vegan-friendly aid stations stocked with refreshments, and plenty of cheerful volunteers to keep your spirits high. The UTBC Marathon is not just about running; it’s a celebration of inclusivity, encouraging participants to bring their four-legged friends along for the adventure. The race starts and finishes at the picturesque Foxholes Campsite, which offers on-site parking and camping facilities for a perfect weekend getaway. Organiser's Description
We are excited to bring back for 2025, our Bishop's Castle Trail Marathon.
Our marathon will take you on a circular adventure along the stunning Shropshire hills, following sections of the Shropshire Way, through to the Nipstone and Stiperstones National Nature Reserves, up onto The Long Mynd, where there is nothing but endless views of the surrounding areas and across various local footpaths, back to the beautiful market town of Bishop's Castle.
Our event will be well marked and marshalled, but we do advise that the GPX is also downloaded. There will be 3 aid stations on route (all vegan friendly) stocked with water, flapjack, coke, lemomade, fruit, salty potatoes, sausage rolls and lots more, plus lots of friendly faces along the way to cheer you on. As per all of our events, there will be no cut off time, and no pressure. So, if you enter and are prepared to keep pushing forward to the end, we will be there with a smile, hug and your finishers medal. Weather permitting, this is also a dog friendly event, as we know many of you train with your four legged friends, all we ask is that they are kept under control and on a lead.
Our mission is one of inclusiveness, with the aim of encouraging people to try their first ever long distance running event, whilst giving experienced runners a great day out on a fantastic course, with a friendly and happy vibe.
This event will start and finish at the gorgeous Foxholes Campsite, where there will be on site parking and toilet facilities. Camping is also available at £10 per person, per night; please contact the campsite directly to book.
