Organiser's Description

We’re returning to the heart of the City of London on Sunday April 7 for the second edition of London’s most innovative running event – 1 Hour. The challenge? To run as far as you can in one hour on our epic closed road route past some of London’s most famous and historic landmarks. It’s a race where your game plan is as important as your fitness level. Where you finish with a total distance, not a finish time…and have more fun than you ever thought possible in an hour alongside thousands of runners.

Entry Information

What's the minimum age to enter?

You have to be 16 years old by 31st Dec 2019 to run in our event. Please also note that if you are 15, 16 or 17 years old by time of entering, you will need to get your parent or guardian to complete this for you: Parental Consent Form.

I've entered but can no longer take part. What are my options?

All General Entry runners who can no longer participate in the event more than 30 days prior to the event date may transfer their entry to another adidas City Run. Runners however, cannot defer their entry into the following year’s events. Notice of this will need to be sent to [email protected] stating clearly the desire to transfer and putting ‘1 HOUR transfer’ in the subject line of the email.

When will I receive my event pack and adidas race day t-shirt?

If you entered using an international address you will have to collect your pack and t-shirt on the day of the event.

If you have already received your t-shirt and it does not fit you may be able to swap it. Please come to the Event Village in Paternoster Square approximately 45-60 minutes before your start time. Please bring your current pack to swap (not just the t-shirt), as we will need to issue you a new timing chip that correlates to your new runner number that is printed on your new t-shirt.

All runners must wear the free adidas race day t-shirt they receive in advance of the event. This will have your unique race number printed on it which will pair with your timing chip and also be used to identify you for your personal photos.

Do I have to collect a timing chip?

You will receive your timing chip along with your adidas race day t-shirt in the post in the lead up to the event. Remember to wear this on your shoe on race day so you can get an official distance

Spectators

Can I walk around the Event Village and Route?

Yes of course. Our Event Village is open to runners and spectators from 07:30 until 17:15 and will be full of entertainment and food and drink vendors for everyone to enjoy.

Faqs

Will there be Pacers?

No – part of the 1 Hour challenge is to pace yourself across the hour. However, there will be a number of clocks around the course counting down to make sure you know how much time is left.

Can I listen to music whilst running?

We strongly discourage the use of any equipment that acts as an impediment to hearing or concentration when running. This includes, but is not limited to, mobile telephones, personal stereos and MP3 players. Please note we cannot be responsible for accidents resulting from taking part with such equipment.

Will there be a bag drop?

Yes. We want you to be able to get some fresh clothes on before re-joining your family and friends to Unlock the City and make the most of the fantastic offers we’ve organised. Remember to keep your medal with you to access these great discounts.

Are you accepting participants taking part in a wheelchair?

Whist we are always looking for ways to make our events as inclusive as possible, we unfortunately are unable to accommodate wheelchair racers. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

Will there be showers?

No. We aren’t able to provide showers but we have changing rooms so you can slip on a fresh set of clothes and Unlock the City, making the most of the fantastic offers we’ve organised. Remember to keep your medal with you to access these great discounts.

Can I run with a buggy?

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the 1Hour course, we cannot allow for runners to compete with a buggy. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

How The 1 Hour Works

How is my finish distance calculated?

We have ‘timing mats’ (or chip readers) located every 0.1 mile on the 1 mile route. Your official finish distance will be calculated by the last timing mat you run over when the hooter sounds after 1 hour. For example, if you complete five laps and cross four timing mats on your sixth lap before the finish hooter sounds, your finish distance will be 5.4 miles.

What time does the event start?

With five waves taking place throughout the day (9am to 3pm), runners will be able to choose their start time/wave. All waves will be mixed ability apart from two ‘fast waves’ for those who want to really push the pace. Please arrive 40 minutes before your start wave time.

How will I know how much time I have left when I’m running?

There will be three digital clocks out on the 1 mile route which will all be counting down from 1 hour, so you’ll have a good idea of how much time you have left when you’re out on the course. We will also have audio countdowns and most importantly a loud hooter when your time is up! Runners are more than welcome to use GPS watches (e.g. Fitbits) to aid them with their pacing.

What happens once the hour is up?

When the hooter sounds and your challenge is complete, you will have 10 minutes to walk back to the start/finish area where you’ll receive your hard earned medal and finish treats – wherever you are on the course when the hooter sounds, you will never be more than 0.5 miles away from the start/finish area. Once you’ve collected your medal, make sure you head back into our Event Village in Paternoster Square to celebrate your amazing achievement with your family and friends. If you have any energy left, we’d love it if you could stay and cheer on all the other runners in the later waves!

Why is the route 1 Mile?

This is a totally unique running challenge and we have created the perfect conditions for you to run as far as you possibly can in 1 Hour. In addition to being fast, flat and absolutely spectacular, the 1 mile route will enable you to effectively pace yourself and pass your cheering supporters on multiple occasions. With engaging route activations to keep you entertained, the stage is set for you to push yourself to new limits.
