Sun 12th October 2025

A vibrant, colorful illustration depicts a marathon happening beside a steam train with runners on a track. A gothic cathedral and a suspension bridge are visible in the background. An airplane flies overhead, and the scene is set in a picturesque, hilly landscape. A sunlit pathway winds beside a historic stone building with tall, arched windows, partially obscured by trees with green and yellowing leaves. The ground is covered in fallen leaves and greenery, evoking a serene autumn ambiance. An old railway signal box with "Warmley" on its sign, featuring multiple large windows and burgundy and cream paint. It is surrounded by lush greenery, including trees and a bush with white and green leaves. A lamp post stands on the left, and tracks are visible to the right. A blue steam train with white smoke billowing from its engine is stationary on railway tracks. The train consists of vintage maroon carriages. Surrounding the train are lush green trees under a cloudy sky. A tranquil scene featuring a paved path running parallel to a railway track surrounded by lush greenery. The sky is partially cloudy, adding to the serene atmosphere. The area is lined with trees and bushes, creating a peaceful, natural setting for walking or biking.

Organiser's Description

The Bath & Bristol Railway Races follow the route of the original train line from Green Park Station in Bath to Bristol Temple Meads and this route is the flattest of all the races in our calendar! The route is 100% tarmac, offering a road race like experience through the green countryside and into the heart of Bristol. The trainline was in use from 1869 - 1971 and between 1979 and 1986, Sustrans converted the railway path into whatwould become the first route on the National Cycle Network.

Along the route you will find historic and active nods to the routes heritage. The Half Marathon runs out and back to Bitton Train Station, with 2.5km in each direction running alongside the Avon Valley Railway, an active heritage line that still runs on the original route today.

The 25km, Marathon and 50km run alongside the Avon Valley Railway station at Bitton and onwards to Bristol, passing restored signal boxes, picturesque stations at Warmley and Mangotsfield.

The 450m long Staple Hill Tunnel is on the route of the 25km, Marathon and 50km race. It is significantly larger than the tunnels at the Two Tunnels and Wye Valley Tunnel Run as the route had two railway lines running through the tunnel. The Staple Hill Tunnel is well lit.

What a race! We love Relish Running for their impeccable organisation of their running events and their outstanding volunteers! We’ve run the two tunnels twice and yesterday completed the Bath to Bristol marathon. An amazing and scenic race, with plenty of marshals on course to cheer and support along the way. Great feed stations with a mix of drinks and snacks. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Thank you all!

A really well organised event, it didn’t seem too busy which was a good thing. The half marathon route was lovely and scenic and was a circular route so you knew when you were on the home straight. Enough water stations with great snacks along the way and really nice medals at the end. I would go as far as to say i’d do this event over the bath half that is usually held in feb/march. Really enjoyed this one and totally reccomend!

If you this is your first time racing or you are a seasoned runner out to enjoy a scenic but relatively flat route, look no further. The organisers are so warm, friendly and helpful and the entire community around Bath as well as Bristol cheers you on. Most inclusive and cheerful bunch of people you could find. Special thanks to Laura and her husband from Bristol who not helped me finish my first marathon but gave such helpful advice for recovery. Laura is a brilliant runner and volunteer who deserves applause. Definitely getting back to this event soon.

Lovely event - hard on the legs with the tarmac, but fast and flat for those that want a good finish time. Enthusiastic volunteers, well-organised race with a nice atmosphere and well-stocked snack stations. Really interesting & unusual race medal too (2025, marathon distance).

The weather was shocking but you can't really fault the organisers for that. It was otherwise a good race. The facilities were great, an excellent choice of route and I generally felt well supported. I would happily use Relish for other events in the future.

Really well organised, particularly in such challenging weather. The care after the event was great and such a lovely route. The route wasn't clear on the website.
