Starting at 09:00

£10.00 - £25.00

Organiser's Description

Lechlade & District Lions Club's fifth Open Water Swimming Race & Challenge will be held in Bowmoor Lake, Lechlade, Gloucestershire, courtesy of the Bowmoor Sailing Club.

For the second year running, we are delighted to announce that Olympic Medal swimmer, Cassie Patten, has agreed to host the event as well as sharing some of her experience and knowledge.

Bowmoor Lake is the best open water location in the Cotswolds, it is fed by an underground stream and is managed to minimise weed growth.

We start at 9-00 with a 3k race for experienced open water swimmers. At 10-30 we have a 3k, 2k or 1k sponsored challenge to help raise money for charity. Uniquely we have a 250m taster for those new to Open Water Swimming!

The entry fee will be £25 for all the day’s events apart from the taster session, which is £10.

All funds raised will be going to Prospect Hospice, follow the link below to fundraise or donate to them direct.

Prospect Hospice

Since 1980, Prospect Hospice has provided the only dedicated end-of-life care service for people living across north east Wiltshire including Swindon, Marlborough and Royal Wootton Bassett as well as Fairford and Lechlade in Gloucestershire. We bring care, comfort and confidence, around the clock, every day of the year.

At Prospect Hospice, we provide excellent, personalised and compassionate care for everyone in our community who is affected by a life-limiting illness. We work in close partnership with other organisations – and specifically with local health and social care professionals – to ensure that anyone can access the best possible care whenever and wherever they need it, and we do so completely free of charge.

Prospect Hospice provides a broad range of services to thousands of patients, carers and family members every year. Our team of nurses, doctors and therapists support patients at the hospice in Wroughton, in their own homes and care homes. Carers and family members can also access a range of free support services.

Through our outreach work – talking to businesses, schools, GP surgeries and community groups – we raise awareness about life-limiting illness and end-of-life care, and encourage conversations about death and dying. We aim to break down barriers that might stop people from accessing our services.

Prospect Hospice is a charity, funded primarily by our local community. Each year it costs several million pounds to provide the care that our patients and their families depend on. Only a quarter of our funding comes from statutory organisations like the NHS – the rest we raise ourselves. If you’d like to help, please read about the many ways in which you can support us here

Great low key event. Perfect for those who don't want a high octane super competitive atmosphere. Good facilities and great lake. Shame about the weather!

Excellent 3km race and “challenge” events. Very good facilities at bowmoor sailing club and good event organisation. Despite the awful weather, people got a lot of enjoyment and the event raised money for Prospect House Hospice.

What an amazing morning, the rain certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. I was made to feel welcome and confident. I would love to come back next year.

This was a great event to add to your swim diary . Lots of parking, very friendly . Nice BIG pink buoys and the water was nice , considering how bad the weather was. Smart medal once the swim was completed followed by a mug of hot choc and a piece of Rocky Road cake. Also , I bought a great hand knitted bobble hat as a nice momento along with medal and race cap of a fun mornings swim . All money going to charity. It was well organised and with an Olympic medalist giving support ….what’s not to like? As long as I’m fit and healthy I’ll be booking again for next year :)

This was a great, low key event. The Lions were so welcoming and friendly. The lake is a great swimming venue. Would have had 5 stars but the first turn buoy was invisible until we were almost on it. Perhaps moor a dinghy with a bright sail by it. I will definitely be back.
