Organiser's Description

What if you could change the world, with just one run?

Welcome to the Impact Marathon Series! The Nepal Impact Marathon is not just a race; it's a journey through the heart of one of the most beautiful and culturally rich countries in the world. It’s a journey that will connect you with the some of the most immense people you’ve ever met whilst living in a community you would never normally get to visit, driving change, inspiring progress…and somewhere along the way, you’ll realise you ran a marathon.

Of course, it’s not just marathon distance runs that are on offer in Nepal - we have the 10km, and Half Marathon routes available so no matter where you are on your running journey, there is an event for you. We never set up our races to be the fastest, or best, or toughest, or any of the other buzz words you hear about running events, no, we set up our races to be deeply impactful, life-changing, and empowering. After 9 years, $1.5million funds raised for awesome causes, and thousands of energised Impact Runners - we have certainly started something special, now it’s your time to be part of the movement.

Powerful Impact:

For the 7th Nepal experience, we are bringing together all we have learnt to drive a truly powerful narrative and impact throughout the week. From our time in Kathmandu, to our work in Batase, you will see firsthand how we can prevent trafficking, support Gender Equality and create real opportunities for the children of Nepal.

We aim for all our Impact Runners to smash through at least £1000 of fundraising - this is what brings the Impact Week alive and leaves a lasting legacy in the communities we seek to serve. The Impact Marathon Foundation has the goal of catalysing change and supporting tangible, grassroots organisations with our funds, affirmation and a platform to tell their story In Nepal we have year on year honed our approach to supporting the right charities to tackle the biggest problems.

The Experience:

Your journey begins in the magical city of Kathmandu, where ancient traditions meet bustling streets. Of all our Impact locations, this is the city that truly feels other-worldly, and it’s easy to get lost, fall in love, and be transported away from all you thought you knew.

Our first and last nights are hosted here in the city, with a traditional, Nepali-owned hotel to stay in - a little piece of tranquillity and comfort before heading up to our host village of Batase. Within the village we sculpt our own pop-up Athletes’ Village that will be your home for the majority of the trip. It’s hard to describe this place, and honestly, we don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’ll be blown away.

The Itinerary | 18 - 24 Nov 2024

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal and a stunning welcome dinner to meet the team.

Day 2
After meeting one of our incredible Impact Projects in the morning, we will be a heading by bus up to the town of Melamchi, deep in the valley that leads to Langtang National Park. From here, we will be hiking up to our host village. This trek is a superb introduction to the area, from understanding the challenges of the topography, to the Himalayas slowly revealing themselves as we trek upwards, to a nice bit of acclimatisation ahead of the run!

Day 3/4
Community Engagement & Impact Project Work. In amongst the training runs, locally cooked food, Sunset Bar drinks, and bonfire chats is a truly powerful Impact Project. Last year, we installed 10 water filtrations systems across 10 schools that grew our impact throughout the communities on the mountain. We will be undertaking a similarly ambitious project in 2024, and all will be revealed soon.

Day 5
Today we rest. This is a time to relax, stretch out with some yoga in the shadow of the Himalayas, learn how to make Momos, tour the village, or simply lie out and read your book. Through the day, runners from across the valleys, and from Kathmandu will be making their way up to the village ahead of the race briefing and Pasta Party in the evening.

Day 6 - Race day!
This is the moment you came for, yet you’ll feel this is more of a Victory Lap than a race. This is a spectacular race route, winding through the very same communities your fundraising and volunteering has supported. You’ll look up at the snow peaks, then down at the magical trails, then around at your fellow runners - before you know it, you’ll be sprinting down towards our hand-stitched Finish Line for an emotional finale. Tonight, we will be back in Kathmandu for a special celebratory dinner.

Day 7
Wake-up in an actual bed! Enjoy a beautiful breakfast, then you can either head on to one of our Bolt-on trips, explore Kathmandu to get your souvenirs, or, sadly, head on back to the airport.

schedule

Since we are travelling to a new home, we will be tweaking this itinerary through the year to be make it as powerful as possible - below is indicative but not exact!

Day 1 - Monday 18 November
Welcome!
We’ll be meeting in the vibrant city of Kathmandu, where we will be staying the first night of our adventure. After your flight arrives in the afternoon, you’ll be whisked to your hotel. Here you’ll get to know your fellow travellers whilst enjoying an evening of amazing Nepali food and start learning more of what you'll be experiencing this week.

Day 2 - Tuesday 19 November
To Batase we go!
After an awesome breakfast, we will be visited by the team from Burns Violence Survivors to share the work they do - the work your fundraising supports. This is tightly knit, beautiful team of passionate advocates who are making a huge impact despite tight resources.
We have supported them since the very start of our time in Nepal - and are always blown by how far they stretch your fundraising. Over 400 life-saving surgeries have now been funded by our Impact Runners. After the talk, it's all aboard our bus to Batase. Well, almost... the last 5km is an uphill climb to the village. We will have a truck take all your bags and luggage up as we have some traditional lunch in Melamchi town. Then, it's a good steep trek up to your new home, our pop-up Athlete's Village that looks out over the foothills, and onto the Himalayas.

Day 3 - Wednesday 20 November
Village Life
Today, we will be waking up with a quick running tour of the village to help get your bearings. This is a gently warm-up, acclimatisation run so that you can begin to prepare your lungs and legs for the race ahead. We are camping at 1800m altitude, so you'll have all the week to acclimatise - so don't worry if this first run feels a bit punchy, it gets easier, we promise.
After a run, and breakfast, we will begin our community project work. We will be launching our Project2024 in March as we continue to assess and discuss the best, most powerful project we can sculpt with the community.

Day 4 - Thursday 21 November
Batase Village
We rise with the sun for another acclimatisation run through the village - it's not uncommon for the school kids to lead the runs. If they do, prepare for some serious off-roading, adventure, and punchy climbs. It's all part of the fun.
Post-breakfast, it is back out to get stuck into the project work with the community. This may involve a good trek out to the surrounding communities as we spread our Impact across the mountain, and across the race route. There's nothing quite like the conversations, shared over these long walks, as well as those outstanding views, and simply put, a total immersion into a community that you would never visit at any other time, in any other way except through an Impact Marathon.

Day 5 - Friday 22 November
Down time
The morning will continue the work from Thursday, and a full immersion into the Batase community. From the magical sunrise, the sounds of a village waking up to excitement of another day working in this beautiful place.
Some of the community members will take you around the village to see the everyday work, and add context to what you see within the school grounds. You'll learn a heck of a lot today.
We will close out by lunch time, ready for your race briefing as the team goes about planning the next day’s events - and welcoming all the local runners coming up from Kathmandu to join us for a spot of camping and running.

Day 6 - Saturday 23 November
Run The Himalayas
The moment has come - race day. We’ll head to the startline together and run as a community in what will be one of the most magical experiences. Get ready for stunning trails and a remarkable finish line moment, as you take the final steps of the hardest race of your life. And at that finish line, we’ll have a huge welcome home for you.
Post-race, we jump in some vehicles and bounce our way back down. the roads to Melamchi. - a post-race massage, if you will. After a bite of chow mein, we will be headed back to Kathmandu for a good shower, and a bit of a party into the night, you deserve it...

Day 7 - Sunday 24 November
Homecoming
You'll have breakfast at the hotel and then you are free to go! Every single year, those who book morning flights regret it as the runners tend to head into Thamel for a final lunch together and souvenir shopping - so top tip, stay a few hours longer for this. It's a special time for all.
Furthermore, we have organised some incredible Bolt-On Adventures that show you the very best that Nepal has to offer. Just message us once you're registered and we can begin planning an extension that is perfect for you.
Alternatively, and reluctantly, we will let you return home!
