The New Forest Rattler Endurance Weekender - The Ride, organised by Challenging Events, is set to take place on Sat 13th June 2020 in Ringwood, Hampshire. This event offers cyclists the opportunity to enjoy peaceful roads surrounded by wild animals and coastal views over the English Channel. With sections of long open straights, punchy hills, and gradual climbs, the routes showcase the spectacular scenery of the New Forest National Park. Riders can expect a maximum gradient of 25% at Blissford hill, a challenging short climb that looks like a wall. The event features minimal traffic, with narrow single lanes in some areas, and riders are advised to be cautious when passing livestock. The 102 mile epic route provides a fantastic challenge for experienced sportive riders, with the last 20 miles being the hilliest. Don't miss out on this favourite fixture in many cycling calendars, complete with a free burger at the finish line!

Organiser's Description

“Why ride it? The Rattler combine camping, the pleasure of riding on peaceful roads surrounded by wild animals and coastal views over the English Channel, and if that isn’t enough a free burger at the end..” Cycling Weekly 2016

The New Forest offers some great cycling and some spectacular scenery. There are sections with long open straights that are truly exhilarating, some punchy hills, and also some longer gradual climbs. The maximum gradient is at Blissford hill near the end of each route where you will encounter a 25% climb. This is a short sharp climb that looks like a wall as you approach it.

The routes have been designed to encounter as little traffic as possible, and there are minimal miles on bigger roads. In places, the routes narrow to single lanes and extra care will need to be taken on these sections. Riders will also need to be extremely careful when passing any of the livestock that resides in this wonderful part of the country. Horses, in particular, tend to get easily spooked by passing cyclists, so please take care while enjoying what has become a favourite fixture in many people’s cycling calendar.

The 102 mile epic route offers the more experienced sportive rider a fantastic challenge, and completely showcases the fantastic New Forest National Park. Be warned though – the last 20 miles of the epic route are the hilliest!

The Swim

ENTER THE SWIM HERE

Ellingham Waterski Club, Blashford, Ringwood, Hants, BH24 3PJ

The swim will be timed, and has three distances to choose from - 1.4k, 2.5k or 3.8k, ideal for the experienced swimmer looking for a quick time, those training for long distance triathlons, and also for those getting into open water swimming.

The swim is a clockwise circuit of the lake. The course will be clearly marked with buoys, and explained at the race briefing at the start. There will be a number of rescue canoes and a safety boat. If you get into difficulty during the swim turn onto your back and raise one arm in the air, assistance will come to you.

Competitors are reminded that no inland waterways in Britain are considered safe for swimming. Do not swim if you have an open wound, feel unwell or are recovering from a virus or infection, as your immune system may not be strong enough to ward off infections. In the event of illness after swimming, medical advice and treatment should be sought from your GP.

Furthermore, to avoid the possible spread of weed between bodies of water, athletes should always ensure that their wetsuits are rinsed and thoroughly dried between swims at different venues.

Spectators can view the swim course between 5.30am – 7.45am

A footpath starts at the gated entrance to the Club and follows the perimeter of the lake, giving many places from which to view. There are also viewing areas at the start and exit of the swim course. Please keep clear of the taped / fenced routes in and out of the finish area. For security reasons only competitors are allowed within the finish compound.
