The Pendine Sands Races & Ultra
You may think that running on the sand will be extremely difficult, but at Pendine the sands are home to the land speed record attempts made famous by the Blue Bird car. This means that generally the sand underfoot is quite firm and absolutely perfect for running on, especially for barefoot running.
This unique half marathon event is an out and back along the Pendine Sands. Starting from Barnacles Cafe, first to make up the distance you run down the beach 0.6 miles before turning back to the starting location and then running down the beach again to Ginst point, then looping back to Pendine for the race finish.
The 10k and 5k options are an out and back along the beach, turning at a point where a race marshall holds a flag.
Or take on the Ultra - two laps of our pre-determined course, actual distance of just over 32 miles. (details below)
There will be a water station at the start, one at 3.0 miles (the turning point for the 10k), another at 5.9 miles (the turning point at the end of the beach), and on returning the same midpoint station at 8.9 miles and finally one at the finish.
Competitors will receive a free reuseable drinks cup to use at the water stations. This is to eliminate the issue of beach littering with plastic cups blowing away. These commemorative bottles can be kept by competitors.
Commencing with a six mile run along Pendine Sands to Ginst Point, continuing along the coast to Broadwas, then returning back through Tremoilet Farm and finally back to the start / finish point at Pendine Sands, where you complete the route again.
