Organiser's Description

Cycling holidays made easy - Sportive Breaks takes you to the best climbs, routes and rides in Europe without the hassle. Join our team of expert guides, mechanics and local hosts and discover some of the best riding on the planet!

Our packages include return airport transfers, half board accommodation, and rides each day. Four night packages in August, taking in the best rides off the beaten track in the Julian Alps in stunning Slovenia.

This region shares similarities with the Dolomites, with beautiful rock structures and green pastures. We stay for 3 nights in Bled, where there is one of the most photographed lakes in the World - a perfect base in the foothills of the Julian Alps - and one night in the mountains in Bovec, with a great mix of rolling rides and cracking climbs.

Empty roads, cobbled climbs, peaks over 2,000m and stunning scenery. Slovenia is just waiting to be discovered by the cycling world - get there before everyone else discovers it!

Itinerary

Day One - Wednesday

Bled

Arrival day. Our main transfer leaves Ljubljana at 11.15am to get to Bled for 12pm. Our mechanic is on hand to fit rental bikes, or help build your bikes. At 3pm we head out for a short 50km coffee spin to make sure the bike (and legs) are working fine. We will be out for 2 hours, including a short climb. Dinner is at 7pm, when we run through the itinerary for the weekend. Ride Distance 50km.

Day Two - Thursday

Bled

Breakfast is from 7am to 8.30am, and we roll out promptly at 9.30am. We take in a classic loop from Bled, with some rolling hills on this 120km route. We set up feed stations every 40km with bars, fruit and water and stop for lunch at a cafe, getting back to the hotel for 5pm.

Day Three - Friday

Bled - Bovec

The Queen Stage. We leave at 9am today for the main ride of the weekend, 128km over both the Vrsic Pass and Mangart Saddle. Both climbs are absolutely spectacular. We have lunch in Bovec before hitting the 22km Mangart Saddle and then descending back to Bovec where we spend the night. The ride has a full 3,500m of elevation, topping out at over 2,000m, one of the best days riding in Europe.

Day Four - Saturday

Bovec - Bled

Today we explore another part of Slovenia as we complete our loop of the North West of the country. The final ride takes us the other way back from Bovec to Bled over rolling terrain. The ride today is mostly through forest with some amazing views. We aim to get back to Bled for 4pm where we spend the night and have one last dinner all together. Ride Distance 126 km.

Day Five - Sunday

Bled

Departure day. After four good rides, have a lie in before a late breakfast. Time to stroll round the lake, or visit the famous island before our transfer departs at 1pm to Ljubljana. We arrive at 2pm so book flights after 4pm.

Trip Summary

Climbs over 2,000m are not limited to France, Italy & Spain. We ride the Mangart Saddle at over 20.8km and 2000m, and the most famous climb in Slovenia, the 11.3km Vrsic Pass goes to over 1,600m, with some steep (12%) sections and cobbled corners. Classic climbs and a unique and beautiful challenge.
