Slow and Dirty

Sturminster Newton, Dorset

Sturminster Newton, England, United Kingdom

Sun 18th December 2022

Starting at 10:00

Organiser's Description

It’s all aboard our fabulous new event the Slow and Dirty!

So named because we will be following the route of the old Somerset and Dorset railway through the beautiful Stour Valley in the heart of Dorset. The railway soon became abbreviated to the S&D which the regular users soon nicknamed the Slow and Dirty because of the constant stops and shaky old rolling stock.

Now the old line has become the North Dorset trailway, providing a flat and firm surface suitable for dogs and buggies, the ideal all-weather venue for a fun festive event to kick start you Christmas.

We start in Sturminster Newton and follow the wonderful Stour Valley for 19k through to Spetisbury for the finish where you will receive a stunning medal and festive cheer.

Course Details

The route follows an old railway line converted to a public path in 2013. Its a good hard surface all the way, so what ever the weather is like it will be doable even with a buggy. You will pass through a number of small villages and the Georgian town of Blandford.

We intend this event to be a not-to-serious family occasion to enjoy in the runup to Christmas. If a trail event could ever be described as weather proof, this is it, as the surface is good all the way and there is minimal incline.

What's Included

The course is fully marked and has 2 well stocked aid stations along the route.

Marshalls will be present at critical points such as road crossings.

On finishing you will receive a fabulous medal, and wonderful festive treats.

Transport back to the start will be available on a pre book - pre pay basis.

  • Easy trail run through the beautiful Stour valley in the heart of Dorset.
  • Perfect start to Christmas with this level run over a hard surface.
  • Suitable for all the family - dogs and buggies are welcome.
  • Multiple access points enroute to meet with family and supporters.
  • Festive spirit at the finish line - mulled cider, festive snacks and a wonderful medal.
