Up on the Downs

Sun 20th March 2022

Two women are running on a grassy trail surrounded by trees and bushes. The woman in the foreground is smiling, wearing a purple tank top and numbered bib 54, and raising both hands. The woman behind her is also wearing a purple tank top and sunglasses. A group of runners gather around a table with refreshments during a race. They are wearing numbered bibs and athletic wear. Some are holding cups and eating snacks, while others look on. The setting appears to be outdoors on a cloudy day, with trees and a brick wall in the background. A person dressed in green and blue activewear is performing a handstand on a grassy area with trees in the background. There is a tall vertical banner with text and a logo, and various items like a water container and bags are on the ground nearby.

Organiser's Description

Now heading for it's 3rd year, 'Up on the Downs' has a slight change of venue to College Farm, but we still access the same wonderful trails, that are truly up on the downs, offering wonderful views in all directions.

The terrain is gently undulating, with a couple of good hills just to remind you it’s not all plain sailing! We have HM, 10k and a 5k on offer. Elevation is 53, 122 and 300m respectively.

Aid stations will be provided with drinks and snacks, there will also be medical cover, and of course the event is fully insured.

We welcome walkers who may just wish to enjoy the scenery and are very much hoping that first timers decide to give it a go at what will no doubt be a friendly and inspiring event.

Finishers will all receive a fabulous medal, and we have trophies for the first 3 ladies and men in all race categories.

NB - This will be a cupless event, and runners will need to bring a suitable receptacle with them.

A challenging trail run.. This was a great trail run, mud and water adding to the challenge. Very friendly atmosphere throughout. The added mile or so in the half really pushed me as a runner and I loved it..!

Challenging multi-terrain run. Enjoyed the day, occasionally a few more markers would give a little more confidence that you’re still on the right route. Lots of surface water made an interesting addition to the run. No complaints at all thanks for the coffee & cake which was most welcome at the finish

Brilliant event. Really enjoyed the 10k route, ok it was more like 12k but I understand how difficult it is to get the exact distance going across countryside. It was such lovely countryside that it didn’t matter anyway. Well done to organisers and thank you for the coffee and cake afterwards. Definitely be looking out for the next one. 😀

Good friendly event. A well organised event with a friendly atmosphere. Due to bad weather leading up to the event the course was changed slightly meaning the 10k increased to 12k, that’s all part of the welcomed challenge. Well done to the organisers, and thanks for the free brews. A great way to spend a Sunday morning. I’ll be back next year.

Very poor. Less than a week before the run, I received an email stating that instead of it being 10k, as booked, it would now be 12k. I booked this to push myself and had been training for 10km. As I have a medical condition relating to my feet, I didn't know how the additional distance would affect them. I emailed the organiser, who completely dismissed my concerns and ignored further emails. I'm very disappointed in the organisation and will not be booking again.
