TrailX Autumn Duathlon

Checkendon, Nr Reading

Checkendon, Reading RG8 0NT, UK

Sat 5th September 2020

Organiser's Description

This is a fantastic off road duathlon for total newbees and experienced competitors alike. The venue is almost flat meaning the fast people go even faster but those looking for a confidence boost are in the perfect environment.

The super speedy course makes for mega close racing, the 2018 race was unbelievably close – in both the male and female races the top 2 were separated by under 12 seconds, and the lead position changed hands multiple times throughout.

There are two distances to chose from, FullX and HalfX, both distances use very similar courses, the HalfX misses a short section of gravel road on the run and does less laps of the mtb route!

FullX Off Road Duathlon – The Full X race is open to those aged 17 and upwards. It will consist of a 3.1km run, followed by approximately 15km on your mountain bike and then finishes with another lap of the 3.1km run.

HalfX/Youth Off Road Duathlon – The format is exactly the same as as the FullX event; run, ride, run but the distance for the run is 2.7km, the bike is approximately 8km and is open to anyone who is over the age of 14 on the day of the event.

— This is the rescheduled Easter Duathlon event from 11th April 2020. The race organiser will be in touch with you in due course if you have made a booking for this event. ---

Course Details

This off road duathlon is held on a super compact course that’s relatively flat, making it great for both beginners and more experienced competitors.

The run route is a great mix of grass track, woodland trails and short section of gravel road (FullX only). The bike lap is the same for both Full and Half X and makes the most of the super twisty single track that this venue is known for.

The narrow woodland tracks are broken up by wide grass paths to make recovery and overtaking easy.

Start Times

FullX: 10:30am

HalfX: 10:40am

FAQs

What is an Off Road Duathlon?

You start in your trainers, run a predetermined distance before swapping to your mountain bike, then complete the bike course, this is usually a number of laps that add up to the advertised distance and finally you drop you bike off and complete the final run, usually the same course as the first run for a few laps of the fully marked course. See TrailX’s homepage for course details at each venue, including distances. The entire course is clearly marked and marshalled so there is no chance of getting lost.

Can I have a go?

Absolutely…Everyone is welcome at TrailX. It doesn’t matter whether this is your first race or you’re a seasoned pro. The courses are designed to be challenging both technically and physically but really accessible so go as fast as you like and enjoy your TrailX

What kit/equipment do I need?

All of the TrailX events are off road so you will need grippy running shoes (ideally trail shoes), and a mountain bike. Road, cyclocross and hybrid bikes are not permitted, neither are power assisted cycles. As for what you wear, it’s up to you – just needs to be something that you can comfortably run and ride in.

Can I practice before I race?

Yes! We would encourage you to use the bike course to warm up so you’re ready for it! Each venue is different with unique features and challenges so a practice lap is always recommended.

How will the start of the race work?

If the course design mean that we can’t have our preferred mass start racers will be split into batches by their category. The first batch will start at the advertised time and they will be followed by the remaining batches at an interval of a few minutes.

What do I do if I can’t finish my race?

If this is for a medical reason then please ensure you report to a medic to be checked over. Then let a race official or marshal know so that we’re not looking for you on the course.

Registration & Transition

Registration will open from the time confirmed in your pre race email and will close 15 minutes before the start of your race.
The mountain bike course will be open for practice for at least 1hr30 before your race, please allow 20-30 minutes for a lap.
Your bike must be in transition by at least 20 minutes before your race is scheduled to start (see event details) and you must have signed on at registration before racking your bike.
Only your bike, helmet, and cycling shoes (if applicable) can be placed in transition.

Race Briefing

The race director will carry out a briefing at the transition area 15 minutes before the start of each race and will walk to the start line with you, during this time please ask any questions that you have.

It is compulsory that you attend the briefing
