Organiser's Description
Governed by Portugal, this wild and remote archipelago is characterised by dramatic landscapes, fishing villages, mountain trails, lagoons, and luscious green pastures. Due to the marine influence, the climate of the Azores is very mild for such a northern location and temperatures remain around 20°C all year round.

Course Details
THE ROUTE
The race organisers create the route to take in the most beautiful and challenging aspects of the “Green Island” of São Miguel.
The course takes runners over mountain trails, alongside volcanic craters and dramatic cliffsides, through wooded forests, past waterfalls and rushing rivers, and up and over deep mountain canyons.
The route may change slightly each year depending on the weather and other varying factors. The GPX file will be provided to runners before the race.
COURSE MARKINGS
The course route will be marked at approximately 50m intervals using coloured flags, ribbons, laminated arrows and reflective tape, depending on terrain.
Areas where competitors are likely to be running in darkness will be marked by flags with reflective tape.
GPX files of the route will be provided to competitors ahead of the event. All competitors must have the route downloaded onto a device (watch or phone) from which they can navigate if need be
There are checkpoints approximately every 10km. If temperatures are unusually high, checkpoints may be stationed more frequently.
