Wye Valley Trail Race

Sat 2nd September 2023

Two people are running on a gravel path through a green park, heading towards a bridge in the distance. The bridge features tall towers and cables. The sky is partly cloudy, and there are large trees on either side of the path. Two people, wearing athletic gear and hydration packs, are running along a grassy path. They are surrounded by a meadow with tall grass. Behind them is a large, green-roofed house nestled against a dense forest under an overcast sky. Two people are running past the ruins of an old, weathered building with no roof and broken windows. The building is surrounded by greenery, and a metal fence stands in the foreground. The sky is blue with scattered clouds. A group of smiling runners in athletic gear pose together, making thumbs-up and celebratory gestures. They are all wearing race bibs and standing on pavement with a building and event flags in the background. The weather is sunny and clear. A smiling runner wearing a hydration pack and blue athletic gear stands near a race timer showing 00:00:00. A banner with the text “Trailbot Events” is visible in the background. The setting appears to be an outdoor event on a sunny day. A group of runners is mid-race on a sunny day, smiling and waving at the camera. Among them, two women at the forefront are particularly joyful. One wears bib number 133 and the other 243. Green trees and a hedge line the background. Three men celebrate with their arms raised, each holding a trophy, after finishing a race. They wear race bibs numbered 12, 300, and 351, and medals around their necks. They stand beside a deer statue on a grassy area with trees and blue sky in the background. Three women celebrate after a race, standing on a podium beside a statue of a deer. All wear medals; the woman on the left raises her arms, the middle woman holds a tablet, and the woman on the right lifts a hand in victory. They smile against a green outdoor background. A runner wearing a blue tank top and black shorts, numbered 241, joyfully crosses the finish line with both arms raised in victory. The runner is on a paved path with green foliage in the background. The URL "www.alunrichardson.co.uk" is visible at the bottom of the image. A woman wearing a black tank top with "Stonehenge" written on it and colorful leggings with star patterns sits on grass, smiling. She has a race bib with the number 105 and a medal around her neck. The background shows scattered belongings on the grass. Two women sitting on grass, smiling and holding glasses of water and medals. The woman on the left wears a bright green "Stonehenge Striders" shirt with race number 86, and the woman on the right wears a blue top with race number 187. Two smiling runners, wearing race bibs 135 and 173, pose for a photo at a race finish line. The man wears an orange shirt and black shorts, while the woman is dressed in a blue and yellow top with a medal around her neck. A banner and buildings are in the background. A woman lies on a massage table outdoors, while a young girl in a yellow shirt and black hat stands in front of her, engaged in conversation. The woman is wearing sunglasses and has braided hair. In the background, other massage tables and people are partially visible. A bald man with a beard is smiling and lying face down on a massage table outdoors, with a woman in a white shirt stretching his leg behind him. A website URL is partially visible at the bottom of the image. A woman with short hair wearing a turquoise sweater is speaking to a smiling blonde woman behind a counter. The counter has black event t-shirts with colorful mountain logos. The setting appears to be a merchandise or information booth. Website text is visible at the bottom. A young man is purchasing items from a vendor at a merchandise booth. The vendor, a woman, is handing him a bag and smiling. Other people are browsing merchandise in the background. Various t-shirts and items are displayed on the table. © www.alunrichardson.co.uk. A woman in a blue jacket and cap speaks to another woman seated behind a table with arranged race numbers and equipment. Several other people are in the background. The scene appears to be at a registration or check-in area for a race or event. A group of runners sitting on outdoor steps, resting and chatting. Some wear athletic gear and running shoes, while others don caps and sunglasses. They smile and engage with one another, possibly cooling down after an event. Part of a website URL is visible at the bottom. A crowd of runners, wearing race bibs, charges forward at the start of a race. Some spectators watch from the side of the road. Several banners with event logos are displayed behind them. The race occurs on a sunny day near a modern building. Two runners, a man in a green shirt and black shorts and a woman in a blue top and colorful shorts, are mid-race on a wooded trail. The woman is joyfully jumping with arms outstretched. Sunlight filters through the lush green trees. A person lies face-down on a portable massage table outdoors while another person stands beside them providing a massage. Sunny weather with trees, grass, and event banners in the background. The person on the table wears a pink shirt and the one massaging wears sunglasses.

Fantastic event extremely well organised by Dave and his team. It’s a strenuous course and a bit longer than a half marathon. Great family atmosphere and really well stocked aid stations along the route.

Trail route was fantastic - challenging terrain, beautiful views. Be prepared for a lot of steep climbs, some of which have to be walked (especially if your bunched in with other runners - the tracks are pretty narrow, so passing can be difficult). Really friendly atmosphere, and route-marking was spot-on all the way around. Loved it.

Fantastic race! Beautiful, brutal trails and great facilities at the start/finish courtesy of Chepstow race course (race facilities with nice toilets!) I entered in 2022 which was cancelled due to part of the route being closed, my place was automatically carried into the 2023 race which was awesome. Only (small) negative was the communication as I heard nothing between last year's race date and about 3 weeks before this year's, I was beginning to wonder if it was on. Otherwise one of the best events I have taken part in and I hope to be back next year

A very well organised race with really friendly staff and marshals. The route is tough with lots of technical terrain and some challenging climbs and an uphill finish in case you haven’t had enough. 😊

Fantastic event - really enjoyed it and the scenery was amazing on what could be described as a challenging course! Well organised and the start and finish at Chepstow race course was great and there was plenty of parking. Really well marked and being able to have a drink at the end and watch others cross the finish line made for a great first experience of trail running!

OMG I loved it! Very well organised. The signposting was fantastic (which is always a plus for someone like myself with no sense of direction!). Route was challenging and varied - road, mud, hills, grass, gravel track, forest and did I mention hills! Nice medal too. Will definitely do again.

Super well organised, great crowd. Only complaint was all the people that finished ahead of me. Brilliant day and will 💯 be back to hit this trail again.

The WVTR in 2021 set a standard that other race organisers should aspire to - easy check-in, audible pre-race briefing containing useful information, course clearly marked without blotting the landscape, and NO DISPOSABLE CUPS hurrah!!!, lovely fruit at the aid point. And a most beautiful course. Oh and baklava at the finish!

A fantastic event in an outstanding location. The Chepstow racecourse was a great venue to start and finish the race, allowing competitors and spectators the chance to relax before and after the race with a drink and cheer participants over the line. The route itself was spectacular: well marked with two aid stations; somewhat ‘undulating’ along the Wye valley to Tintern, past the abbey and back to Chepstow past the castle. So much history, beautiful woodlands, technical downhill sections and a nice cold beer at the end. Fabulous medal too!

Loved doing this race in 2021. Fab venue with plenty of parking and nice loos! Smooth registration process on site with awesome freebies. Route was beautiful and very well way-marked taking in fabulous woodland trails, Tintern, Chepstow Castle and classics like the Devils Pulpit. Really friendly and well-stocked feed station. Great medal and photographs after the race. Will be back in 2022.

Brilliant trail race. The course can be a little bit of a welcome challenge at times as there are some uphills and technical sections but it’s absolutely stunning. The scenery is beautiful so it make all the effort worth while. Great event, run by great people. I highly recommend it and will be back next year

Great races in a fantastic and unique location. Very well organised event centre and clear signs all along the route. Views of the Wye valley, the Abbey and the Caste were great distraction from the pain in your legs on the hills!

An amazing 15 mile cross country run. Stunning views, caves and lots of harsh ascents through trees. The event is extremely well organised and the the Marshall's and staff are friendly helpful and amazing at keeping you motivated. This was my bucket list run but can't wait to do it all again. Dave and the crew are amazing
