Chepstow Racecourse, Saint Lawrence Road, Chepstow, UKSat 2nd September 2023
Starting at 10:00
1 race
£42.00
Organiser's Description
This route epitomises the Wye Valley trails in every way, rolling forest trails, stunning views, historic landmarks and a mix of technical ascents / descents, open fields and views across the Severn estuary and River Wye.
See below for full details and to see what is included in the entry fee.
Course Details
The route starts off on a wide, downhill tarmac track that then goes uphill into woodland before looping around the outside of the race course in full view of the grandstand and viewing area of the bar. After 2 km the route goes onto technical single track joining the Wye Valley Walk and even goes through a cave…… There are some steep sides to the edges of the path here and care will need to be taken.
The route heads uphill towards Eagles Nest above Wyndcliff before going along the ridge and dropping down into Tintern and a stunning view of the Abbey.
Here the route crosses the river Wye for the first time and heads uphill on single track and then a wider forest track before joining the famous Offas Dyke path. At this point you’ll be in and out of the trees and woodland with magnificent views of the Severn Estuary and both Severn Bridges. The route here is a mix of fields, tracks and woodlands passing some very impressive houses.
The route drops down hill into Chepstow town, across the river Wye for a second time and heads up past Chepstow Castle. You climb up through the town before joining back onto single track and out to views across Chepstow before looping back around for the final 2 km back onto the race course and to the finish line.
This is not a closed road or footpath event. Participants will need to have caution at road junctions and be respectful of other people using the paths / trails.
