Organiser's Description

Our December Accumulator challenge is sure to have you running on Christmas cheer and keep you from going crackers!

Complete the 12 runs of Christmas (or more runs if you wish) of any distance between 1 & 25 December and earn yourself a special Christmas tree medal decoration.

But wait, there’s myrrh… the challenge includes an optional distance element with a bespoke digital certificate awarded to anyone who completes a distance award. The challenge starts on 1 December and ends on 25 December, and you can join the challenge anytime from now up to Tuesday 8 December at 10am, when entries close.

It costs £15 to join – your entry fee includes a unique finishers medal, access to training plans & tips, access to our online tracking tool, and support throughout the challenge.

There is a separate Christmas challenge for runners aged 14 years and under: The Little Star challenge is for ages 9 & under, and The Nightmare Before Christmas challenge is for ages 10 to 14 years.

The weather outside is frightful, but this delightful challenge will fire you up to keep on running through December! Whether you run in elf-isolation, or sign up with your tinsel troupe, may all your miles be merry!

What's Included

How It Works

1 - Enter the Challenge any time until 8 December

5 - Submit your final results to receive your digital certificate

CHALLENGE EXTRAS

COMPLETE THE 12 RUNS OF CHRISTMAS
You can run at any pace and distance comfortable for you. Complete a minimum of 12 runs by 25 December to finish the challenge and earn the digital certificate. All challenge entrants will be sent a special Christmas tree medal decoration which will arrive in time to wear with pride or hang on the Christmas tree.

To keep you festively fuelled, we’ve created an Advent Calendar of tasks to try through the challenge.


(OPTIONAL) ACCUMULATOR DISTANCE AWARD
There are three optional distance challenges. Depending on how far you run over your 12 (or more!) runs we will also award you a personalised digital finishers certificate to download and share:

- A round of santa-plause - 30 Miles
- Run run Rudolph - 60 miles
- There's snow stopping you - 100 miles

You can use our online tool to log your runs as you go - live from 1 December - or use your own tracking app or device to record your activity. Once you have completed 12 runs (or more) and your target distance, simply submit your results and confirm that you have completed the challenge to download your digital certificate.

JUNIOR CHALLENGE
For runners aged 14 and under.

With the school holidays approaching, we’ve got just the thing to keep your youngsters busy and active in December.

The Little Star challenge is for ages 9 & under, and The Nightmare Before Christmas challenge is for ages 10 to 14 years.

All challenge participants will receive a special Christmas tree medal decoration which will arrive in time to wear with pride or hang on the Christmas tree. The medal will be delivered to the adult who completes the entry, for them to award once the challenge has been completed. Creative medal ceremonies are encouraged!

The junior challenge costs £10 to join – and the joining fee includes a unique finishers medal and access to our downloadable activity sheets.


LITTLE STAR (AGES 9 AND UNDER)
Complete our Active Advent Calendar between 1 & 25 December. To keep your Little Stars in the festive spirit there are 10 fun tasks to complete.

Complete all of the tasks to finish the challenge:

- Make a running Christmas decoration
- Run in a festive outfit (Santa’s hat, Elf ears, Rudolph antlers etc, all count!)
- Do 20 Star jumps
- Sing a whole Christmas song out loud as you run
- Jingle all the way… add Christmas decorations to your trainers
- Touch your (mistle)toes 20 times
- Tree-mendous… run and find a decorated Christmas tree on your street
- Do 20 Jumping jacks
- Find a Christmas song with the word “Run” in it, and sing it
- Draw your running route… and go out and run it


THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (AGES 10 TO 14 YEARS)
Complete 10 (or more) runs between 1 & 25 December, marking off each run on our tracker sheet.

Run 25km in total (or further) and submit your results and yule receive a personalised digital certificate.

Logging Your Runs

You can choose to log your runs as you go through the challenge using our online run tracker. This will make tracking your progress and submitting your challenge results easier. To do this you will need to enter your Great Run registration ID, which can be found on your entry confirmation email, and date of birth.

Alternatively, you can choose to keep track of your runs yourself using your own tracking device or app, and simply visit the results submission page at the end of the challenge. If you choose this option you will need to enter your total running time, total distance, upload a (optional) screenshot of your activity, and confirm that you have completed the challenge. Your digital certificate is available to download as soon as you submit your results.

For the Nightmare before Christmas junior challenge you can use the tracker sheet, or your own tracker, to keep a track of your activity and then submit results at the end to receive a personalised digital certificate


FAQs

The Great Run Solo Accumulator challenge is usually a month long challenge, but in December it will run from 1 December to 25 December. To complete the challenge you must complete 12 runs (or more) during the challenge period (1 - 25 December). The runs can be of any distance.


IS THERE A DEADLINE TO ENTER THE NOVEMBER CHALLENGE?
Entries for the December Accumulator Challenge open on Monday 9 November and close on Tuesday 8 December at 10am.


I'VE MISSED THE CHALLENGE START DATE CAN I STILL JOIN?
Yes, as long as you enter before the 8th December then you can still join the challenge. If the date is after the 8th day of the month, you will need to wait to join the Accumulator challenge in January.


HOW DOES THE OPTIONAL DISTANCE AWARD WORK?
Everyone who completes 12 (or more) runs will receive a special edition challenge medal. The optional, second part of the challenge is to tally up the distance that you’ve completed over all of your runs (12 or more). Depending how far you have run across the challenge, you may have earned a distance award. Anyone who has earned a distance award will receive a digital finisher’s certificate (A round of santa-plause – 30 Miles; Run Run Rudolph – 60 miles; There’s snow stopping you – 100 miles


HOW DO I ENTER THE OPTIONAL DISTANCE AWARD?
You don’t need to enter this separately – if you have already entered the Accumulator Challenge then you already have the chance to achieve a distance award. At the end of the challenge when logging your results you will need to calculate the total distance that you’ve covered..


CAN I DO MORE THAN ONE RUN PER DAY?
Yes you can do more than one activity per day, but don’t overdo it!


CAN I USE A TREADMILL?
Yes, you can use a treadmill to reach your target. Just remember to track the activity.
