Join us for the exhilarating Rutland Border Epique, hosted by ITP Events, on Sunday, May 23, 2021, in the stunning setting of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. This fully supported cycling challenge invites riders to experience the breathtaking roads of Rutland, starting from the scenic Waterside Café on the South Shore of Rutland Water. Participants will enjoy a variety of race distances, with each route offering its own unique challenges and scenic views, including the impressive Harringworth Viaduct and the tough 11% climb between Theddingworth and Sibbertoft.
After tackling the punchy climbs and quiet terrain, riders can look forward to refreshing catered feeds with delightful snacks like pizza slices and sausage rolls, ensuring you have the energy to keep going. After completing your ride, unwind with a complimentary beer and enjoy the picturesque surroundings as you share stories from the route. Take on our fully supported challenge on the best roads Rutland has to offer
A quick ride from the event parking takes you along the shore of Rutland Water and past the historic Normanton Church to the start at the Waterside Café on the South Shore of Rutland Water. The feeds on this event are catered, with hot food and a free beer at the end of the ride, so all you have to think about is riding.
The café will be open so you can get a good coffee to start you off on the right foot.
Once you’ve started your ride you’ll soon find yourself on quiet yet challenging terrain. Rutland is full of punchy climbs that come thick and fast, so there is always something to think about. No long, dull, flat sections here.
Some early hills on the long route take you south west to the impressive Harringworth Viaduct. After that we continue west to Foxton Locks and south Leics, which contains the hardest climb of the route at 11% between Theddingworth and Sibbertoft.
At this point we turn back east into the Welland Valley, on route to the quiet and picturesque north east Northants.
The last 10 miles is a bit steadier, with all of the toughest climbs out of the way leaving you to enjoy the scenery as you head back to Rutland Water to eat, drink, relax and talk about your ride on the shore of the water.
At least one of the feedstation per route will be catered, with pizza slices, sausage rolls and other savouries as well as tea and coffee and sports drink from our partner High5.
Anglian Water will charge entrants to this event £3 PER CAR for parking at Sykes Lane, Empingham LE15 8QL (2.3 miles from HQ). The normal day parking rate is £8. You will need to pay CASH ONLY on entry. Please consider car sharing to reduce this cost. There is no parking at Normanton HQ car park this year.
