Organiser's Description

This page is for day two of the two weekend events! (Sunday)

The Hardwick Hobble is a six-hour challenge on a looped course around the amazing National Trust Heritage site at Hardwick Hall.

You may attempt to complete as many laps as possible over the full six hours, or you may choose to finish just one, the choice is yours and you don't have to decide how far you're running until you're running! The course will take you around the stunning grounds of the Hardwick Estate, from the ponds and farmlands to past the house itself.

The route is still around 6.3km long, so 7 laps is a Marathon, anything more will class as an Ultra.

At Rasselbock we like to put on events how we'd like to have them. No stress, pressure and a great bunch of runners. You can decide on the day how far you'd like to run so there are no worries if you're having a "bad running day". Just complete one lap of the event and you're classed as a finisher and have earnt a medal.

Course Details

The route is mostly trail through the stunning ground of the Hardwick Estate, around the farmlands and ponds before making your way up the hill towards the stately home itself.

The route will be roughly 6.3km long and you need only complete one lap in the six hours to be classed as a finisher.

The event will be taking place on a National Trust site that will still be open to the public. Runners will not have the right of way and we will need to be considerate to all the other users of the area, be it walkers, cyclists, families, etc. The route will be avoiding the busiest visitor areas but please be aware of other users on the site. The route also has two (one way) road crossing which will be marshalled.

How to Get There

After leaving the M1 at junction 29 you’ll want to briefly turn onto the A6175 before taking a left onto Mill Lane. After around a mile you’ll want to take a left crossing underneath the motorway towards Hardwick Estate and Ault Hucknall. After passing Stainsby Mill the road will split and you’ll see the welcome sign for Hardwick, take the right-hand route through the estate gates. Follow the estate road for 1.3 miles and then follow the directions to the car park.

Parking

There is plenty of parking available at the Hall and we will have our own dedicated area close to the HQ. Parking for the day is free for runners and National Trust members.

Location

From the car park, you should be able to see the starting gazebo and event flags in the opposite direction of the house. There will also be the standard bright yellow arrow signs directing you to Race HQ. At busier events, we will have a car park marshal or two to help with parking.

  • Age Restrictions

    Unfortunately, we do not allow under 12’s to participate in any live event. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 then we will need a parent or guardian to contact us before signing up so that we can advise them on how to register your place. Even though we are not a part of the UKA we still abide by their rules which means that the following ages are limited to the following distances. Over 12 years – under 14 years – 5,000 metres Over 14 years – under 16 years – 6,000 metres Over 16 years – under 17 years – 10,000 metres Over 17 years – under 18 years – 25,000 metres Over 18 years – under 20 years – 45,000 metres

  • What facilities will be available?

    We will have a portable toilets at the race HQ split evenly between womens and unisex. There will be some public toilets that will be open for our use (from 8.30 am) although these are NOT at the race HQ! They will be located by the lower ponds about 3km into the loop. Please bare this in mind when arriving at the site and preparing at the start line.

My first Rasselbock Running event but I had so much fun, despite the mudfest. The atmosphere was great with marshals being very encouraging and other participants were so lovely too. Will definitely be booking another!

Despite the muddiest, slipperiest conditions I've ever ran in, the vibes were amazing!! A huge shout out to the marshalls - they were so enthusiastic and encouraging - especially the guy with the horn and the lady at the top of the hill 🙌 I was very excited to see (and taste!) vegan sweets and cakes at the aid station Amenities were great and loved being able to park so close to the start line It was so wonderful to see spirits so high and everyone so supportive and chatty throughout. I'll definitely be back for more events with you guys in future ✨🙌💕

Amazing event despite the horrendous conditions underfoot. Marshals looked after everyone throughout the whole day. Such a good friendly atmosphere. Can’t wait to book my next Rasselbock 😃

Great event, everything about it was ticking all the boxes, the route was fantastic, amazing food station, friendly organizers and Marshalls across the route cheering for you. Medal quality are far the best I have, given I'm a road runner and this is a first trail run receiving many medals finishers made out of non-decent materials. Overall I'm happy, and this experience would definetley encourage me to run trail events again in the near future.

Fabulous experience. Great route - challenging in places but picturesque surroundings, friendly and supportive marshalls, well organised, great facilities at HQ and good food and drinks (pickled gherkins and Barr cola!). Looking forward to another attempt in the future.

Really enjoyed the run at Hardwick Hall. Ample parking, great staff on site with refreshments & loads of snacks. The medal is also beautiful! Would recommend.
