Organiser's Description

A scenic summer run starting from the YMCA Hawker Centre (Kingston) proceeding along the Thames Path on an out and back flat and fast scenic riverside route that is very well marked and marshalled all the way along the course.

Runners World rated as one of the top 10 marathons in the U.K.

Course Description

The marathon course starts just outside the HQ, near the Thames Path. The out / back route proceeds from the HQ and runs along the Thames Path past the Boaters Arms pub, out towards the far side of Canbury Gardens where the course then loops around at this marshalled turning point, returning past the race HQ and proceeding all the way along the Thames Path as far as the Barn Elms Rowing Club (Barnes) Aid Station. Marathon runners will then turnaround here repeating the same route in reverse, so returning along the Thames Path bypassing the race HQ again to the far side of Canbury Gardens which is the final turnaround point for this last 1.9 mile out / back section, and completion of the marathon course at race HQ. The half marathon proceeds from the HQ and runs in the opposite direction initially from the full marathon out along the Thames Path to the Aid Station at the Kew Gardens car park which is the half marathon marshalled turnaround point, returning along the Thames Path bypassing the race HQ towards Canbury Gardens where the course turns just past the Boaters Inn pub to return in reverse direction finishing back at the race HQ. The route for both races will be very well signposted with fixed Hermes Running signs and ribbons demarcating the run-route, and there will be marshals at both the full and half marathon turnaround points. The marathon runners will be given red race bib numbers and the half marathon runners will be allocated blue race bib numbers, this is to make it much easier for our marshals / runners to distinguish between the full and half, so if you see a runner flying past you just check out his or her race bib before you decide to speed up !

Getting There & Parking

There are no parking spaces for runners at the YMCA HQ, so you will need to go to the Seven Kings Carpark, Sury Basin, Kingston Upon Thames, KT2 5ND. This is a multi story car-park and from here you can walk along the Thames Path from Kingston Bridge, through Canbury Gardens to the YMCA HQ - it’s literally a 1 mile walk.

If you’re coming by train the nearest station is Kingston, which is 1.6 miles away, about a 25-30 min walk.

Other Information

Registration at the YMCA HQ will be open from 7.30am. Please allow yourself plenty of time to register, get changed and get your baggage secured in the designated area with one of our baggage marshals.

You will be issued with your race number containing your electronic timing chip on the day. Your race results will be sent though to you via the mobile number you provided at the point of registration and will be uploaded to the website directly after the event has taken place.

There will be a 10 minute mandatory pre-race briefing at the start

The race YMCA HQ has adequate changing and toilet facilities for both male / female runners, but no shower facilities.

The time limit for the marathon is 6.5hrs.

Minimum age for the marathon is 18 years old

Course Details

The course is 99% flat / fast and is run along the Thames Path out / back. We would ask runners to exercise due care when running under Richmond Bridge then past the Richmond town centre, as this area can get very congested, so please take extra care when running past this area and be very courteous to the general public.

The conditions are weather dependant and if it rains the Thames Path trail can get muddy on stretches.
