The Northumbrian Full & Half Iron-Distance Triathlon & Trails Runs

Sun 29th June 2025

A triathlon starts with participants running into the water under a starting arch that emits orange smoke. A crowd watches by the side, and trees form the backdrop. The sky is overcast, and the scene is filled with anticipation and energy. A group of swimmers in open water, wearing swim caps and wetsuits, competes in a race. Yellow buoys mark the route, and a forested shoreline is visible in the background under a cloudy sky. A cyclist wearing a blue and red jersey and white helmet rides uphill on a winding road surrounded by rolling green hills. Other cyclists are seen further back along the road. The sky is cloudy, casting shadows on the landscape. Three athletes run along a dirt trail in a lush, green forest. The runner in the foreground is wearing black sportswear, while the two runners in the background wear lighter, colorful gear. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the path. Two participants celebrate at the finish line of The Northumbrian event. They are raising champagne bottles and wearing medals, smiling joyfully. The banner and crowd barriers in the background highlight the festive atmosphere of the race's conclusion. Two people in athletic gear run on a gravel path through a lush, green forest with a large lake and rolling hills in the background. The sky is partly cloudy, casting dappled sunlight over the serene landscape. A scenic view of a winding road through lush green hills with several cyclists riding uphill. The landscape features rolling hills and dense greenery under a partly cloudy sky. The cyclists are spread out on the road, pedaling at different paces.

I don't know where to start WHAT A DAY! First off a HUGE thank you to all staff and support services. Nothing short of incredible. Constant encouragement throughout and doing everything in their power to keep you going. They seen me in a few flustered states and I never got chance to thank everyone personally, but this event team is arguably the best I've ever seen at an event. Personally, I had a very rough day 😂 bad cramp on the swim, and turning extremely cold post swim, which all staff kept me supported with and got me on the bike which was touch and go. Then the bike… 3 punctures. Yes 3. Almost derailed my finish. If it hadn't of been for the bike maintenance team on hand instantly it would have been done. I owe them so much. The bike needs a good check as there was clearly an underlying issue but nevertheless, I made it in, doing the last 15K on the wheel rim 😅 I have never been happier to run a marathon in my life after the day I had. It was hot as hell, the course was extremely challenging imo, but also incredibly scenic, beautiful. Some hard climbs, but matched by incredible descents. The roads were incredibly good in honesty and it was my bike that was the issu. The only suggestion id have for improvement is covering the cattle grids on the cycle route. I'd also take a midge net with you. A mix of insane support from the team and some grit means I finished my first full distance ironman. Time could have been better but I think due to obvious circumstance just getting to the finish was the win. Couldn't recommend this event more highly, from the set up, the teams, the gift bags, and the MC all incredible. Leading the way for events and ill 100% be back (with a better wetsuit and tyres 😂) Thank you to everyone involved

Absolutely amazing day. The organisers have chosen a stunning location. Kielder Water is a spectacular reservoir. The water wasn’t too choppy and the temp was good. The staggered start meant there was no washing machine effect and everyone got away comfortably. The bike scenery was incredible. Up into the Scottish Borders. The first part of the ride was a closed road but even after that there was very little traffic. The road conditions were good except 2 places on descents that were clearly marked. The course is rolling and there were 5 “climbs” (according to Garmin climb pro). Only 1 was really a decent climb requiring granny gear. However it was enough to sap the legs for the run. This was around a woodland peninsula of the lake. A trail run but can be run in ordinary shoes rather than trail specific one. Generally flat except for a 1 km rise (which went in forever on my second loop). 2 loops for 70.3 and 4 for full. There were plenty of aid stations and portaloos on both the bike course and run. The race director kept the crowd entertained all day my partner said. There was coffee and merch available too. Overall I thoroughly recommend it even for a 1st middle or long distance race.
