Organiser's Description

The first Sunderland city 10km was held in 2011 with just over 1500 taking part. 13 years later the Sunderland City Runs will welcome 5000 participants to the city streets in a celebration of running across a range of distances. You can choose the 10K, the stunning Half-Marathon or the Active Sunderland Big 3K. There is something for everyone.

Come and join in one of the north's largest running events that races through the city and along the sea front, with two of its famous bridges providing a stunning backdrop to all 3 distances. No matter if you’re a first-timer or an experienced runner, the course and atmosphere are conducive to fast times as well as a lot of fun. See you on the start line!

With spectacular coastal views and a brilliant atmosphere, although we cannot guarantee the weather, we can guarantee a superbly organised event with plenty of support on the route and an army of enthusiastic volunteers to make it a great day for all taking part. All participants will receive a t-shirt, medal and goody bag. There is ample city centre parking, baggage services and plenty of fun activities for those not taking part.

Important information for wheelchair entrants

No separate self-propelled wheelchair race will be staged, and hand cycles will NOT be allowed. If you are competing as an assisted wheelchair entrant, (competing in a regular wheelchair, NO hand cycles allowed), your assistant/pusher must be a successful entrant into the event also. Please note: for safety reasons assisted wheelchair participants will be allocated a race number at the rear of the field. Self-propelled wheelchair entrants may be allowed to start ahead of the main field - we will contact you following acceptance of your registration.

1st time I've ran the half marathon but won't be the last. Very well organised, lots of enthusiasm at the start line on the PA, challenging course at times with inclines scattered around which make it all the more rewarding. Easy access to medal and good quality t-shirt at the finish line.

Very nice and warming atmosphere! This year's 5k was my first race in my adult's life and I really enjoyed it. There were many superheroes running far in the front, and many superheroes running at the back with no age limits. Noone is worse or better, you go there for fun and try to do what you can. This is how I felt.The crew were very helpful and kind. Thank you for a nice time together.
