Race The Tide

Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass, CA18 1, United Kingdom

Sat 12th August 2023

Starting at 10:00

£8.00 - £85.00

Organiser's Description

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Race the Tide where runners of all levels are challenged to a unique 10km obstacle race. The route follows wild and natural features where you crawl through mud, wade through rivers, tackle obstacles, and scramble to the top of wooded hillsides.

The race starts and finishes in the beautiful grounds of the historic Muncaster Castle, located in the Lake District, and ends with a celebratory dinner and Ceilidh! We also offer a full weekend of activities and accommodation at Muncaster's campsite, or indoor rooms for the perfect staycation.

It's an event not to be missed. From athletes to families and dogs, everyone is welcome and what started as a race between a small group of friends has grown into a great adventure weekend. We'd love to host you from the 11th to the 13th of August 2023.

Course Details

RACE ROUTE AND OBSTACLES
Race the Tide is a combination of human made and natural obstacles throughout the course. Every year the course is different as the ebb and flow of the tide requires us to adjust the route. It has a very varied landscape and running conditions. The obstacles include a variety of water crossings, walls and slides paired with some steep hills.

All obstacles are designed to be achieved by runners of differing ability, even if that may require the help from others. However, a marshal will be available to redirect a runner at main obstacles, if needed. Please avoid swallowing the water in the river, cover cuts and wash yourself in our showers after the race.

Full route details to be released ahead of the race!

LEVEL OF RUNNERS
Race the Tide welcomes runners of all levels. While running the course is the ultimate goal, some competitors have chosen to walk the whole route in the past - the scenery really is that great! Marshals will also walk the route to make sure everyone is back in after the race. Knowing your limits is important and therefore there will be opportunities to drop out of the race, however we please ask that you inform a marshal so we don't spend hours looking for you.

AGE OF RUNNERS
Runners must be over the age of 16. Additionally, runners under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian during the race. The guardian runner must be over the age of 18.

SWIMMING
Some of our obstacles require swimming. At registration, you will have to confirm that you can swim at least 50m. If you cannot swim please let us know and we will indicate to you an alternative (slightly longer) route that avoids the water

How to Get There

DIRECTIONS TO MUNCASTER (RACE THE TIDE VENUE)

For SatNav: use postcode CA18 1RD but beware of being brought over the mountain passes, particularly if starting from the Central Lakes. Muncaster is ~90 minutes from the M6 at either Kendal J36 or Penrith J40 or Carlisle J44.

By road from the North: From Carlisle, follow the A595 for Cockermouth, then Whitehaven and Barrow. Or from M6 Penrith follow the A66 towards Workington, then the A595 towards Whitehaven and then Barrow. This road bypasses Ravenglass and goes past Muncaster’s main entrance and car park. For the coach park, disabled and accommodation parking, continue ca 1/3 mile and take the next right.

By road from the South: Leave the M6 Motorway at junction 36. Follow the signs for Barrow-in-Furness on the A590. Before Barrow, turn right at Greenodd onto the A5092 and follow this road for Workington and Whitehaven. This joins the A595 which will bring you to Muncaster, ca 7 miles after Bootle village, over a stone bridge and up the hill. The first turn left is for the coach park, disabled and accommodation parking. For Muncaster’s main car park and entrance, continue ca 1/3 mile on the A595.

By public transport: Ravenglass mainline railway station is ~1 mile away (around 20 minutes walk). Taxis are available locally by prior booking. Check with Traveline for public transport options on www.traveline.info
