The Roker and Seaburn seafront is long enough for a half marathon out-and-back on flat ground, though the Estuary wind means the return leg can be significantly harder on exposed days. The River Wear path heading inland offers a sheltered alternative, with flat riverside miles past the Wearmouth Bridge and into the city. Herrington Country Park to the south has more varied ground with some elevation, and is useful for the harder sessions in a training block.
