Cheddar Gorge Road Half Marathon, 10km & 5km

Sat 16th September 2023

Six people in athletic attire, standing in a rocky outdoor area with medals around their necks, smiling and holding up their fingers to signify their number. They appear to have just completed a race, as indicated by the race numbers pinned to their front. Three runners, two women and one man, wearing race bibs and medals stand smiling on a road near a rocky cliff. They hold drinks and the sun is shining. Other people and greenery are visible in the background. A group of runners participating in a race on a winding road through a steep, rocky gorge with lush vegetation. Spectators stand along the roadside, some holding red flags with white logos, cheering on the runners. A few cars are visible in the distance. A runner wearing a green tank top and a race bib numbered 622 is running on a mountainous road. The road curves with tall, rocky cliffs covered in patches of greenery towering in the background. Orange and blue cones line the side of the path. Three runners race on a paved road near a rocky, mountainous terrain with lush greenery. One runner leads considerably ahead, while the other two are closer together, trailing behind. The sky is clear, providing a picturesque backdrop to the scene. A winding road cuts through a deep, narrow gorge with steep, rocky cliffs covered in greenery on both sides. The sky above is partly cloudy, casting a serene light over the scene. Sparse vegetation is visible along the cliffs and the edge of the road. A winding road curves through a dramatic, towering limestone gorge blanketed with lush vegetation. The sheer cliffs rise majestically, showcasing various shades of green and gray. The sky above is overcast, adding a moody feel to the natural landscape.

Great event, good route, well organised and staffed, and a good time! Waaaay too expensive though for a wooden medal and ultimately just a 10k (considering the Nello cycle in Exeter costs £40 for 100miles with multiple fully catered stops) but if that doesn’t matter to you and running satisfaction is more important, then you’ll love it!
Really pleased you enjoyed your run :-) We spend the same on our large 10cm x 10cm wooden medals, full colour on both sides, as we did on our smaller metal medals of a few years ago. We made the decision to go for a more eco option as we value being as environmentally friendly as possible I think you're comparing apples and oranges here. The Cheddar Road race run is fully closed roads event which comes with costs in the very high 4 figures, a cycle sportive simply doesn't have these costs. The entry fee goes towards ensuring your safety and maximising your enjoyment, without the expense of the closed roads, it simply wouldn't be safe or possible to hold the event. We hope you enjoyed our post race snack selection; mini cheddars, fizzy drinks, tribe bars and a selection of other treats at the finish line which were also along the race route at 5km intervals.

There was very heavy rain during the couple of hours preceding the run, so a huge thanks to the organisers, volunteers and marshals for getting everything ready for us in the event village and out on the course beforehand. Thankfully the rain stopped just before the start, which made for a more enjoyable run. It is certainly a memorable course, both in terms of the terrain (downhill for the final 7.5K!) and the stunning scenery in the Gorge towards the end. The provision of buses to get us back to the village was very welcome! Well done as ever to Relish Runners, who always organise innovative events.

I really enjoyed this race! It was well organised with parking at the bottom and a double decker bus ride to the top. Water stop at 6k, why plastic cups when promoting box water at end ? Also needs more toilets at start end as we were delayed by 15 minutes for everyone to get through! But apart from that it was amazing 🤩
Thank you Marina, so pleased you enjoyed the day :-) The cups aren't plastic, they are made of sustainably sourced plant starch. We felt it would be wasteful to give out a whole large box of water on such a cool day, so cups were a better fit. A few more loos already on order for next year, hope we will see you there!
