PAGAN TRAILS

Sat 30th January 2027

A large group of runners gather at an outdoor event at the base of a hill, under cloudy skies. Many are wearing colorful athletic clothing and carrying backpacks. Some are standing, while others are sitting on the grass. An inflatable arch is visible in the background. A weathered trig point pillar stands on a grassy, rocky landscape with expansive views of rolling hills and valleys under a sky dotted with clouds. The distant hills are covered in patches of green fields and hedgerows. A black and white photo of a stone circle in a grassy landscape. Large, weathered stones form a roughly circular pattern, with smaller stones scattered around. The horizon includes rolling hills with a patchy treeline and a sky with scattered clouds. A solitary, leafless tree stands in a barren landscape, its gnarled branches reaching out under a cloudy sky. The scene is reflected in the pool of water beneath it, surrounded by sparse, dry grasses and shrubs. The overall atmosphere is desolate and contemplative. Three smiling runners stand together on a grassy field after a race. They are dressed in green running gear and appear cheerful despite the overcast weather. Tents and people can be seen in the background, indicating the event setting. A woman wearing a colorful headband, purple jacket, and blue running vest holds a wooden plaque. She stands in front of an inflated black archway with "OuterEdge" text. The setting appears to be an outdoor event or race, with grassy terrain and tents in the background. A woman in athletic gear, wearing a medal and a red headband, smiles while holding a wooden plaque that reads "Ashgan Diana's Midwinter Half Marathon 1st Female." She stands in front of an archway and tents set up on grass with cloudy skies in the background. Two men in outdoor running gear are running on a dirt trail along the edge of a lake. One runner, wearing red and blue, is in the foreground, while the other, in lime green, is further back. The landscape is lush with trees and vegetation under a cloudy sky. A man in an orange jacket, orange cap, and red backpack smiles at the camera while running on a path. Several other runners are seen in the background, with a forest and parked cars lining the road beside them. It's a cloudy day. A group of runners dressed in colorful athletic gear, gathered outdoors on a grassy field. In the foreground, a smiling woman with pigtails waves at the camera, holding a phone, and a man behind her smiles broadly, both wearing red hydration vests. A man in a blue cap and black athletic wear runs up a steep hill during a trail race. The background shows a rural landscape with fields, trees, and a distant village. Other runners can be seen following him up the hill. A serene landscape featuring a single wind-swept tree near a body of water in Dartmoor is overlaid with the text: "Pagan Trails Dartmoor Saturday 25th January 2025." The sky is filled with soft, pinkish hues, reflecting the peaceful ambiance of the scene.

Organiser's Description

The PAGAN TRAILS MIDWINTER MARATHON and HALF MARATHON is a supreme challenge in testing Dartmoor winter conditions.

PAGAN TRAILS will be based in Chagford in the north-eastern corner of the moor, where mythical, mystical Dartmoor meets the lush valleys of the North Teign and Bovey Rivers.

PAGAN TRAILS because the two distances (Midwinter Marathon & Half Marathon) visit many of the stone circles and pagan sites of this part of north Dartmoor, steeped in ancient history and legends.

The Marathon is a long one of over 28 miles and the Half Marathon is well over 14.. but that’s OuterEdge. That’s how we like it!

The PAGAN TRAILS are no walk in the park, the Marathon has over 1500m of ascent and the Half Marathon has almost 700m. Set in midwinter.. it is a significant test.
