Organiser's Description

The Chepstow Steeplechase is a super fun day out, all about climbs, crawls, water and mud! These events are for everyone, you don't need to be fit to take part, you just need to be hungry for a laugh and fun times. There is a mix of obstacles to climb over, tunnels to crawl through, water to dip into and run through and mud pits to wade through. As this event is for all runners, there are no obstacles which require upper body strength; no monkey bars or rings, but if you are fortunate enough to have strong arms, you can still put them to good use on the climbs. For the mini steeplechase we have mini obstacles incorporating all the elements of the adult run.

The 3km Mini starts from 10:00. The 5km and 10km races start from 11:00.

Course Details

We have a great mix of climbs, crawls, mud and water. The 3km runners will have approx 20 obstacles, the 5km approx 15 obstacles and 10km approx 30+ obstacles.

If in doubt, miss it out, we want everyone to have fun and if you don't fancy a particular obstacle, we are very happy you skip it.

Between the obstacles, the route is largely grass, with a few little rises and falls along the route, but it is not particularly hilly.

Accompanying Adults: Accompanying adults can accompany free of charge, and as such do not register as a participant; they will not be on the start lists, collect a race number, finish time or medal. Max ratio of 1 adult to 2 children who must remain together at all times. Accompanying adults are of course welcome to register as formal participants. We suggest adults test the water for depth before children enter the water, there will be dry alternative routes. Children must cross the line with accompanied adult when this is their category or no result will be recorded.

What's Included

All finishers will take home a top quality custom medal. Adult medals will be a VERY large 10cm x 10cm medal, Mini Steeplechase medals may be a mix of different designs.

Prizes

All our finishers receive a top of the range custom medal as well as a buffet of fresh fruit and other tasty treats. We also recognise a few of the speedy runners on the following basis.

Prize Categories

Top 3 male and top 3 female
First U20 male and female
First 20-39 male and female
First 40-49 male and female
First 50-59 male and female
First 60-69 male and female
First 70+ male and female
The final number of prizes awarded is determined by the number of finishers for each gender in a given race distance. If there are more than 100 finishers then the full range range of awards are made as shown above. If there are less than 50-100 finishers then the top 3 finishers overall will be awarded a prize. If there are less than 50 then only the winner will be awarded a prize. We do not have any winner's prizes for any of the children's events as would like to keep this participation focused.

There is no on the day prize giving because of the multi wave, multi start time format of the events. Prize winners will be contacted mid week via email.

Event Format

Runners will start in waves of ~100 based on the wave you select when you register. Please tell your friends which wave you are registering for so you can start together.

Accompanying Adults

There is no charge for the accompanying adult, unless they wish to claim a finishers medal at which point we ask they register as well. Maximum ratio of 2 children to 1 adult. Muddy and water sections are deep in places. We suggest adults test the water for depth before children enter the water, there will be dry alternative routes. Children must cross the line with accompanied adult when this is their category or no result will be recorded.

Distances are approximate and we reserve the right to add on a few metres to find some extra good muddy bits :-)

  • The accompanying adult does not need to fill out any additional forms in advance nor on the day. As the adult is merely accompanying the child, they will not collect a race number on the day, nor will they collect a finishers medal or time.

Great fun, very well organised, lots of motivation from the marshals. Ethically sourced medals that look great.

Amazing location - cool to run around the race track + great views across the Severn. Really friendly atmosphere and lots of supportive marshalls. Lots of fun obstacles and enough undulations to give you a real sense of achievement at the end. Loved it! (Only improvement would be a shower so I don’t get shouted at by my mother-in-law again for traipsing mud into her house ;-)

Did the mini run. Was such a good event. Well organised and the staff were amazing. Checking the numbers and encouraging the kids by their names was such a lovely touch. Only thing I would say was there wasn’t any water or mud on the kids run. More mud please
Thanks Kirsty, really pleased the marshals looked after everyone so well on the route and you have a good event with us :-) Agreed, we will seek out more water and mud for the kids race, being a dry year, all the usual spots had dried up Thank you for running with us!

No where to wash off the mud after the event No free T shirt that you would get in similarly priced events You have to pay £7 for the pictures taken, compared to free pics at the Winchester 10k My gps said it was 8.5km but that could possibly be a gps fault. Cheap medals at the end. This appears to be just a cashcow event.
Hi Nicholas I can ensure you got a full 10km run. And for your 10km you got 34 obstacles, across your 2 laps which I think is great value for £30. What other events offer so many obstacles for such great value....? Wolf Run is 2-3 times that price depending on when you book. We don't purchase cheap throw away t-shirts for environmental reasons, we do have t-shirts available to purchase as an optional extra which are made from recycled plastic bottles. The large, two sided printed wooden medals are not a cheap option, they are a choice we made to be more sustainable over metal medals. Prices for our very large wooden medals 10cm x 10cm are more expensive than your typical metal medal, especially with a thick two sided colour ribbon. The costs of putting on an OCR are huge and I'm afraid many people don't appreciate this. We only had 300 runners, this is barely enough to cover the running costs of the day, let alone there be anything for the organisers to pay themselves as evidenced by the rapidly dwindling number of OCR events. The course was much muddier than expected, we actually walked across the swamp the day before the event so almost didn't include it, so we will speak to the venue about providing a tap or hose next time. We put on a great event at a great price and we look forward to returning next year and growing the event :-)
