How To Get There
By road: Aberdovey is situated on the coast at the South end of Snowdonia National Park, between Barmouth and Aberystwyth. It is about 2 hours drive from Chester and 90 mins from Shrewsbury. LL35 0ED for your sat nav, if that's how you roll.
The Dovey Yacht Club is on the North side of the River Dovey estuary, about 20 miles from Machynlleth. Take the A487 out of Machynlleth, then at the roundabout turn onto the A493.
By rail: Aberdovey railway station, about 0.5 miles away, is on the picturesque Cambrian Coast line, with passenger services calling at all stations between Machynlleth and Pwllheli, including Tywyn, Barmouth, Harlech and Porthmadog. Passengers can connect at Machynlleth for trains to Aberystwyth or Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street.
Aberdovey is also serviced by a request stop at Penhelig.

Course Details
It's a beach start (by the yellow star on the left). Following the North side of the estuary you will pass Penhelig corner, Picnic Island and reach Trefri where the "castle" stands proud (big yellow house is good for sighting). Here you turn and head back to Aberdovey...
Expect slight tidal assistance at the start and finish, and it is likely that you will be swimming against a small amount of tidal flow around the middle part of the swim, so be prepared to slog it out, this will only last a few minutes until the tide is back on your side! Expect water temperature to be around 16 degrees Celsius.
