Sat 19th September 2020

A man wearing a wetsuit and a green swim cap smiles and gives a thumbs up. He is surrounded by other participants in wetsuits and green swim caps, likely preparing for a swimming event or triathlon. Two participants in black wetsuits and pink swim caps embrace in shallow water during a swimming event. Both appear joyful and relieved, sharing a celebratory hug in the middle of the water.

Organiser's Description

This is quite a special swim, one of the most beautiful estuary swims in the UK. The swim takes you around Aberdovey Wharf and Jetty, on past the picturesque village and Penhelig corner. You will then carry on past the Roman Road, Picnic Island and The Outward Bound Trust up to a big yellow house, and to what looks like a small castle (Trefri) on an island. Course Details

It's a beach start (by the yellow star on the left). Following the North side of the estuary you will pass Penhelig corner, Picnic Island and reach Trefri where the "castle" stands proud (big yellow house is good for sighting). Here you turn and head back to Aberdovey...

Expect slight tidal assistance at the start and finish, and it is likely that you will be swimming against a small amount of tidal flow around the middle part of the swim, so be prepared to slog it out, this will only last a few minutes until the tide is back on your side! Expect water temperature to be around 16 degrees Celsius.
