Sun 9th February 2020

Organiser's Description

Cycling holidays made easy - Sportive Breaks takes you to the best climbs, routes and rides in Europe without the hassle. Join our team of expert guides, mechanics and local hosts and discover some of the best riding on the planet!

Our packages include return airport transfers, half board accommodation, and rides each day. 6 night trips available.

Our 7 day / 6 night trips for early season Spring cycling in beautiful Cyprus run every week from February to April. Our basic itinerary is the same every week, mixing classic climbs with lesser known local routes. Join our small group rides led by our expert team as we explore the Troodos Mountains and coastal roads. The queen stage includes the epic climb to Mt Olympus.

What makes Cyprus such an up and coming cycling destination? One of the warmest climates in Europe, with temperatures in the low 20s from Feb; 325 sunny days per year; an amazing mountain range headlined by Mount Olympus at nearly 2,000m; brilliant road surfaces with hardly any traffic; light, tasty food with some great local cafes by the beach and in the mountains. Our routes alternate between longer days in the foothills / mountains, and easier days rolling by the Med. Come and discover Cyprus for yourself and fall in love with a new Spring training destination. Early season riding doesn't get much better.

Itinerary

On arrival and departure days we have short, 30-50km spins just to get the legs moving. On the other days we split into two groups, a cafe group averaging 21-24km/h and a club group averaging 25-28km/h.

Day One - Sunday

Paphos

Arrival day. After a short transfer to the hotel and some time to check in, our mechanics are on hand to fit you to your rental bike or help build your bike. We have a short 30km spin to make sure legs and bikes are working before longer rides ahead. At 7.30pm we have a welcome dinner to go over the week.

Day Two - Monday

Kathikas Loop

We roll out at 9.30am and head up the coast on pan flat roads for 20km. We then head inland into the hills for three shorter climbs, before a descent back to the coast. We should be back early afternoon for some relaxation time before dinner. Ride Distance 104km.

Day Three - Tuesday

Hills, Valley & Vines

Another 9.30am roll out for an easy day, with one longer climb in the middle. We head South along the coast before heading inland for a 10km, 5% climb, and then a long, quick descent home. Ride Distance 115 km.

Day Four - Wednesday

Queen Stage: Mount Olympus

The big one. We have a couple of options depending on how hard you want to push it. The full route is 160km to Mt Olympus and back. with a long climb from sea level to nearly 2,000m with a great cafe stop. The descent down is thrilling and any pain of the climb will be long forgotten.

Day Five - Thursday

Easy Day

An easier day in rolling hills. We head out at 10am to allow for a lazy morning after the queen stage. The ride aims for a winery where we have lunch, then get back for mid afternoon. Ride Distance 82 km.

Day Six - Friday

Paphos Forest

One last big ride. The route goes into the forest in rolling hills. Over 136km there is very little flat as we go over four hills and some quick descents.

Day Seven - Saturday

Departure Day

Before heading back to the airport there is an optional 58km spin to get some last warm miles in the legs.

The Climb

Mount Olympus

This climb could be as long as 57km, but the first 43km are on easy gradients with the occasional rolling sector. The last 14km are full on at an average of 6.5%, with the occasional steeper ramp until you reach the top of the island and a lovely cafe!
