Organiser's Description

DOCK2DOCK

SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER, 2021

Following a sell-out event in 2020, the Dock2Dock is back!  Love Open Water will once again be hosting this unique and challenging event in London’s Royal Docks on Saturday  4th September, 2021 with the addition of a new distance – the 15k!

This huge body of water covers an area the size of central London and swimmers will get to experience the old and the new of the area as they head east from Royal Victoria Dock, with Canary Wharf and the O2 looming in the background, towards London City airport, passing the imposing cranes that line the docks.

Love Sports Events, together with Love Open Water hosted a Covid-Safe event in 2020 for over 500 swimmers who were blessed with good weather and warm smiles from our small army of masked volunteers and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back in 2021.

Don’t miss your chance to experience swimming in the heart of one of the worlds’ great cities!

FAQs

I'm new to Open Water Swimming - can i take part?

Yes of course, you can, in fact we’d love you too. You will obviously need to start training in plenty of time, so come along to the London Royal Docks OWS sessions and take a look at the website for some information about coaching sessions.

Will I need any special equipment?

It is not compulsory to wear a wetsuit for Dock2Dock event. You will need to purchase a tow float if you are entered in the 10k or 5k event. These will be available to purchase for £19.99 when you book your place.

I am scared of open water do I need to have a coached session?

Yes, we would recommend that you do, please see our link to the coaching availabilities. Special coaching sessions for Dock2Dock will be held at London Royal Docks OWS.

Is the water safe to swim in?

Yes it is. NOWCA operates the swimming throughout the year in Victoria Docks and as such the water is tested every two weeks against EU Bathing regulations to ensure the purity is perfect for open water swimming. So you don’t have to worry. The water is slightly salty but really clean and pleasant to swim in. You will find that it is a couple of degrees colder than the lakes and more similar to rivers. Come and try it out for yourself.

The final race schedule will be published closer to the event but PROVISIONAL cut-off times are as follows:

1.5k 1.5hrs

5k 5 hours

Awesome well organized Event. This race has come of age from a relatively small event to an extremely well organized event which keeps it's happy community feel. Good choice of distances to challenge even the best of swimmers. Found this to be a great challenge. So friendly and the whole business community gets involved. There was even a oyster bar there this year. Prosecco anyone?
