Cortina d'Ampezzo, Province of Belluno, ItalyWed 3rd June 2020
Organiser's Description
Our packages include return airport transfers, half board accommodation, and rides each day. Four night packages from June to September in cycling's most beautiful destination. Five days in climbing wonderland. Ride classic climbs like the Passo Giau and some lesser known stunners including Tre Cime, all with incredible scenery in all directions. Cycling at its very best.
The Dolomites is special place in the cycling world. Ask anyone that's been and they will rave about the incredible scenery, warm hospitality and amazing climbs (and descents!). On this trip we spend 2 nights in Cortina and 2 nights in Corvara. The long weekend is set to the backdrop of some of the best scenery in Europe - imagine the Sound of Music mixed with stunning rock formations. The local Ladin culture (they speak their own language in these valleys) is a mix of Italian and Austrian, and there's some great mountain food. An unmissable cycling break!
Itinerary
Our Dolomites breaks run Wednesdays to Sundays from June to September. We arrive early on Wednesday in time to set bikes up and go for a spin, and leave late morning on Sunday, allowing for a very early ride if wanted, while still getting you home at a reasonable hour.
Day One - Wednesday
Cortina
Arrival day. We meet you in Venice airport and head out at 12.30pm for a 2.30pm arrival in Cortina. After building bikes, we head out for a late afternoon spin, with an optional summit of Tre Cime di Lavaredo, one of the classic climbs in Italy. Tre Cime di Lavaredo is as steep as it is beautiful. The final 4km average 12% on one of the most incredible climbs in cycling. We get back early evening and have our welcome dinner together at 8pm, where we go through the plan for the days ahead. Ride Distance 52km.
Day Two - Thursday
Cortina to Corvara
Breakfast at 8am for a rollout at 9am. Our mechanic is on hand for any last minute bike work before we head out towards the Fedaia. We have a cafe stop in Canazei, then continue over two more climbs to Corvara. We should arrive early to mid afternoon for dinner at 7.30pm. Ride Distance 94km.
Day Three - Corvara
Off the Beaten Path
We head off the beaten path today and escape the World, going over the Passo delle Erbe then back over the Gardena. A stunning local ride on narrow, empty roads. Today is one of the highlights of the weekend. Ride Distance 107km.
Day Four - Saturday
Corvara to Cortina
We roll out at 9am and head towards the major climb of the day, the mighty Passo Giau. Once over here it is downhill all the way to our hotel in Cortina. We have a celebratory dinner at 7.30pm. Ride Distance 90km.
