Dragon's Back Race

The Dragon's Back Race is a legendary six-day ultra-running challenge traversing the mountainous spine of Wales from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle. Covering approximately 380 km with over 16,000 metres of ascent, competitors tackle the rugged peaks of Snowdonia, the remote Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons before reaching the Welsh capital. Combining long distances, technical mountain terrain and demanding navigation, it is considered one of the toughest multi-stage mountain races in the world.

While in Camp
- 5 nights of tented accommodation (at each of the overnight camps).
- A spacious participant marquee where you can relax and socialise with your fellow runners.
- A team of motivated, supportive and encouraging volunteers to keep you going on your journey south!
- An info point team ready to help in anyway they can!
- Mail Dragon Mail™ service (allowing your friends & family to send you messages during the race via the GPS Tracking page).
- Charging stations for participants to share at overnight camps.

While on the Course
- A spectacular start in Conwy Castle!
- A spectacular finish in Cardiff Castle!
- Flexibility to choose the Hatchling course from the start or swap to it at any point during the event.
- Digital race timing
- GPS tracking of participants (for safety + friends and family will be able to follow you in real time!)
- Bespoke, waterproof and annotated Harvey map of the race route.
- Access to a digital version of the same Harvey map (smartphone app required).
- Transportation of participants' overnight dry bags to each overnight campsite.
- Transportation of participants' resupply dry bags to each daily support point.
- Support from the fantastic event team, and access to your resupply dry bag, at the support point each day.
- A manned water point each day where you can refill your water bottles.

Transportation
- Transport to start / from finish point for those doing the shorter Hatchling Course option.
- Onward transportation from the support point to the finish in case you need to retire.
- Return transport from Cardiff to Conwy after the finish or transport from Cardiff to Conwy before the start*.
- Free transportation of a transfer bag up to 23kg from Conwy to Cardiff to help those of you travelling via public transport.

Catering
- Copious quantities of breakfast, finishing snacks and dinner each day.
- Unlimited tea, coffee and hot and cold water for drinking.
- Restaurant Celebratory meal on the last night of the event.

Mementos
- Legendary dragon trophy for all Dragons (full race route completers), or a Hatchling trophy for those completing the Hatchling.
- Dragon's Back Race® participant T-Shirt (presented at the event registration) and/or plant a tree.

Your Safety
- A team of medical professionals available for support while at the overnight camp (doctors, nurses and physiotherapists).
- Professional Response Team of qualified Mountain Rescue team members stationed along the course to assist in case of emergency or injury.
