Events of the North is thrilled to announce the return of the Durham City Run Festival in 2024, taking place from 18th-20th July in Durham, County Durham. This exciting event, in partnership with Durham University and supported by Durham County Council, will feature a variety of races including the Durham City 5K and 10K, Paula’s Families on Track, Run Like A Legend timed mile, XO Durham, themed runs, and tech talks. With activities for all ages and abilities, there truly is something for everyone at this festival. Whether you're a seasoned runner or a beginner, you won't want to miss out on this fun-filled weekend of running and community spirit.

Events of the North in partnership with Durham University and supported by Durham County Council are excited to announce the return of the Durham City Run Festival from 18th-20th July 2024.

The Durham City 5K and 10K races return, as well as Paula’s Families on Track, the Run Like A Legend timed mile, XO Durham and our popular themed runs and tech talks. A full programme of exciting activities and events aimed at all ages and abilities will be released in the coming months. There will be something for everyone, even if you’ve never run before!

Course Details

Two races and one unforgettable finish! The World Heritage Site provides the stunning backdrop to this exciting event that chases through the narrow cobbled streets and along the beautiful River Wear with the imposing 900 year old Cathedral always beckoning. There can hardly be a more spectacular setting for a Summer Night of racing and fun.

How to Get There

Durham train station is a 10 minute walk from the start area. There are also a number of bus routes through Durham City Centre, please see routes and timetables on the following link http://www.durham.gov.uk/busmap

Parking

The Durham Park and Ride service will be in operation for the 5K/10K on Thursday 18th July. The park and ride car park dedicated to the event is:
Belmont, DH1 1SR

The service will be free for runners on showing your race number, there will be a charge of £2 for spectators. Under 16s are free if accompanied by an adult over 21.

There is also parking available at Price Bishops Shopping Centre (normal charges apply), and County Hall.

  • Minimum age

    10K: Minimum age 15 years old on race day 5K: Minimum age 12 years old on race day

  • Can my dog run alongside me?

    For health and safety reasons we cannot allow any pets to participate in any of the events.

  • Will you send me information in advance?

    Once you have entered we will send you by post your race number, timing chip & race information pack. Race information packs will also be available for download on the website prior to the event.

  • I’m injured and can’t run what should I do?

    Oh no and after all that hard work too! We are sorry you are missing out on the event. Please contact [email protected] to inform the event team of your withdrawal. DO NOT PASS YOUR RACE NUMBER on to anyone else, it potentially puts them at a medical risk, we have no medical information or emergency contact details for them. Medical deferrals may be accepted if we receive medical evidence from a GP or Physio up to 4 weeks prior to the event.
